THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: Alternate Designs For Peter Parker's Web-Shooters
One of the most dramatic changes that director Marc Webb made from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man universe, was having Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) create mechanical web-shooters. Hit the jump to check out some alternate web-shooters created by Ron Mendell.
One of the things that I enjoyed about The Amazing Spider-Man was that director, Marc Webb, decided to have Peter Parker create mechanical web-shooters. As you'll remember, in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man universe Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) produced webbing organically, a result of his mutated biology. That never sat well with me, as the mechanical web-shooters were always a great way of showing Peter's scientific aptitude, and his inventive nature.
“I had a meeting with Stan Lee and we talked about the web-shooters. I was curious about the incarnation of them [because] of course in the previous films [they went away from them] and we wanted to reestablish ourselves. That was one thing but the other thing was the fact that the web-shooters were able to dramatize Peter’s intellect and I thought that was really cool. ... It was in the comics and we have a different design but it’s a cool element to have. It’s not something we over-use or over-exploit. To me, it’s something I remember from when I was a kid and thinking ‘It would be cool if I could build those.’” - Marc Webb
