Kirsten Dunst May Not Return as MJ in Spider-Man 4 Movie

UK newspaper, The Daily Express reports that the 26-year old, who has played love interest Mary Jane Watson in all three previous movies, is said to have stalled on agreeing to appear in the fourth, which will again star Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

A Hollywood insider told the paper, "It had been presumed that Kirsten would sign up for the fourth but she's still not agreed. She needs to be assured that the story is going to be a strong one, in terms of her character. The films clearly wouldnt be the same without her."

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is due to hold a private meeting with Dunst in a last ditch attempt to persuade her to rejoin the cast. "I'm hoping that she is going to come on board and I've got a meeting coming up with her," he confirmed whilst promoting his current film Drag Me To Hell, "I think she would like to but I dont want to speak on her behalf."

I personally would rather not see Kirsten or MJ and instead have the film focus more on Peter as Spider-Man hopefully skipping the numerous dancing scenes that wasted screentime in Spider-Man 3! What do you think - should MJ return or should Gwen instead be the attention of Spidey's affections?

I dont think this would be a terrible thing if she didn't come back. I also think that there is someone out there to play the role of peter parker better than Toby. Toby is ok and Kirsten is ok.. but there are other ot there that can do a better job. Meh get rid of her, wouldn't hurt. You can pay any hotty to scream thier pretty little heads off and pretend to be a damsel in distress in a movie.

never been a fan of her as mj either, but if you're going to introduce gwen stacy as a more prominent role, you almost have to do a love triangle thing. i'd leave mj out of the movie as a whole. say she's over seas on a photo shoot for a little while and just take her out of the equation as a whole. i'd like to see the movie concentrate on peter/spidey more anyway with out the hamperance of the whole love story.

i did see toby do a interview on the daily show with joh stewert of course :). and he at the time seemed bored or tired with the idea of promoting SIII, hopefully the vacation got that out of his system, i cant speak for the guy but maybe his interest are of something else.. ?

im pretty sure i saw an interview after the first film where she said that she was only doing three then was leaving because she didnt want the character label following her, and now she is talking about doing a fourth one, moneys talks i guess, i def think there is some one who could play the role better and i dont think she is that integral, look at gyllenhal(dont know how to spell her name) taking over as rachel on batman, if they are a better actress will anyone really complain?

This sounds kinda like Halle Berry and storm when X3 was in negotiations. I love her, she's hot, i want her as a penis coozy, but she doesnt seem to care about her character. I actually read an interview where she dissed comics and their movies. Hey, if you dont like it, we shouldnt have to pay for your ass.

toby maguires emo side only showed he can be a lot gayer than we anticipated.
i think they could pick a better person for BOTH roles,
i mean they only show alot of the dorky side, but not buffed up spiderman.
they show he can be emotional like the cartoon, but even if he WAS a dork in the cartoons and movies, he was able to duke it out with the strongest enemies.
secondly, in the first didnt tobey need to be photoshopped onto the body? ridiculous.
though there could be a better peter parker, i could see a replacement and still watch the movie.
but with kirsten dunst as MJ, it might end up beiing worse.
i think gwen stacy is extremely hotter than MJ in the movies, maybe they should only do like a small on screen part for MJ and show a progression of Gwen?

I hope they keep the cast as is, but I would like to see them focus on Gwen, she is one of my favorie characters. I would like to see them build her and Peter's relationship, so she could die in it.

Maybe she can make a small appearance like Margot Kidder in Superman 3.

I also agree that Kraven and Lizard would be good villains for Spidey 4.

It would not be the end of the world if Mary Jane was not in Spidey 4. Let her be off restarting her stage career far away from New York and Peter. I expect Spider-Man 4 will still be a good film.

She was never a good fit for MJ. In the comics she was a model for heavens sake and Dunst is more of the girl next door type. A better bombshell like actress would have been anna faris or mena suvari to have cast from the very first movie.

I thought they should've started out with Gwen Stacy in the first place. Now they can either focus on Peter or get that story arc going. Dunst never really drew me in as MJ.

First choice: Go with Gwen Stacy and MJ. Have a good rivalry going in between the two and have the villian just kidnap them both at the same time. Makes for a great interal struggle as to who to save. * whispers * Gwen....
Second choice: They originally wanted Kate Hudson for MJ why not just go back to that?

How about this... the movie starts off with MJ, the two have some relationship troubles, and she leaves to go tour with her acting or modeling company or something.

While away, Peter struggles with his typical issues and blam! thats when Black Cat shows up. Having her as an elusive and seductive sometime villian/sometime ally illicits strong emotions in Peter, who love/ hates her. At the same time, Peter grows closer to Gwen because she is the only real friend he has left, until she becomes a love interest. MJ returns to the end and finds pete conflicted, and leaves him until he can sort things out (while in the real world Dunst can figure out if shes going to continue to be commited to the franchise. If not, she can be written out at this point).

Like a few of you have already observed, it does look like if she's going to be on board it will be at the cost of the story. Just so she can squeeze more of a co-starring role, just like Barry. [frick] her.

There are plenty others that can fill her shoes.

Isla Fisher or Emma Stone and even Rachel Hurd-Wood would blow this butter-headed goink outta the water as MJ.

This is some fantastic news, probably the best i have read in awhile. Lets hope that that ugly bitch doesnt sign for a new contract and this rumor is true. They need to sign Danneel Harris for the role of MJ, she is smokin hot and has dark Red hair like MJ should have. She is perfect for the role. I wouldnt mind a new Spider-Man casting as well but that douche bag Toby fits the Peter Parker bit to a T.

For the record I liked all the Spider-Man movies, 1 and 2 mostly but 3 had its moments. Spider-Man is my favorite superhero

You know it's nice to see when the majority of the Spidey fans can agree that Kristin Dunst was a terrible choice as MJ. Hell I don't like Tobey either, but meh, I'm used to him, can't get used to Dunst though. She is way too far from what the character is supposed to be.

Kill her off, pull Gwen to the front, and throw in Felicia Hardy! I would really like to see black cat, maybe a team up with her and Spidey to take down the Lizard and Kraven or something along those lines. I dunno...um...BOOO DUNST!

I LIKED her in the first two, and I LOVED how they resolved the whole Peter/MJ thing in the second movie with her knowing his identity and them being together, but because Rami has no balls, he let the powers that be RUIN the third one. I'd like to see her back for continuity's sake I suppose. I'm getting a little tired of Maguire too tho. He freaking CRIES in every damn Spider-Man movie. That shit has to stop. Also, I'd like to see Carnage in this one, have him and Spidey go at it, do what they should have done in that last awful movie!

I liked her as MJ but that being yes I agree they could have picked someone who resembled her closer in the comics but they picked who they picked and honestly she is easy on the eyes if you ask me but anyway that being said it would be retarded to change your leading lady in the fourth installment if she doesn't sign then they should say her character went abroad for a while dont replace her.
