SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold

SPIDER-MAN 4 Production on Indefinite Hold

Looks like everyone's friendly neighborhood web slinger has been been placed on indefinite hold said an inside source exclusively to the IESB today.

Apparently "Spider-Man 4" is put on hold because of script reasons, so says IESB.net:

Apparently, several department heads working on the SPIDER-M4N production were notified of the halt last Thursday. Spidey and friends have some issues that need to be dealt with before production can move forward once again. Oh, and the film is known as SPIDER-M4N within the production offices so take note! Who wants to be the first to start the trending topic on Twitter #SPIDER-M4N?

An inside source working on the project tells IESB that there are some major issues director Sam Raimi is dealing with that include an incomplete script. And why is the script incomplete? Looks like Raimi and the studio heads at Sony Pictures can't agree upon a villain for the film.

Since the last movie Raimi tried hard to make Vulture the villain but instead they got Venom to be the partner of Sandman. Other bad news is that Sony will only get a villain who is selling in the comic books. Inside sources also say that all this commotion is also causing conflicts within the production. So I guess we really won't hear a lot of SPIDER-MAN 4 at the moment, possibly on January all this will be settled.

ROCK ON! and MABUHAY!

MERRY CHRISTMAS! and MALIGAYANG PASKO SA IYONG LAHAT!

this really is the same exact thing that happened with spidey 3. i think its safe to say that if raimi even does this one, that it'll be the last spidey film he does. i would be pissed if i were him, even if he is stupid for wanting to put the vulture in.

Both Spidey 4 and First Class could turn out great. There's just no way to know at this point.

I'm gonna go nuts here for a moment and then I'll explain my craziness, so bare with me, okay?

DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE MOTHER[frick]ER DIE!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Okay, I'm better now.

"Nero, what the hell are you talking about?"

Well, I'm glad you asked, Bobby.

I dread Spider-Man 4, I will not call it Spider-M4n, because that's just stupid. Truth be told I would love a great Spidey movie, I would really love it, but let's face it. Sony "suits" are beginning to sound like Fox. What this means is they think they can now make a better film than the film makers who actually know what they are talking about.

Were Spidey 1 and 2 perfect? Absolutely not. Was 3 a cluster[frick] of near biblical proportions? Oh yeah. Difference: Raimi in charge vs. Raimi with studio involvement. Raimi is a very nice guy, but he is too nice of a guy to do what he needs to do right now, which is to say to Sony, "[frick] it. I either make the film I want to make or I quit." Now I know there are contracts and legal issue to simply saying that, but come on Sam.

If this cannot be done, then Sony will "own" Spidey. What I mean is, they will basicly be able to do whatever they want with the franchise and Raimi may well let them push him around. In turn this means that Spidey is effectively dead to most fanboys. The franchise has gone off the rails and will remain there.

If this is to be the case. I say DIE. Let it tank.

In truth, I think this thing is begging for some fresh blood. I lost my enthusiasm for the film, no matter who the villains turn out to be, when I found out Dunst and Maguire were returning. I'm tried of them and their lifeless and limp renditions of some of my favorite comic characters, their lack of chemistry and general lack of charisma and likeability in bringing these characters to the screen has taken all the joy out of seeing them on screen.

The constant sympathy for the devil aspect of the stories is wearing very thin as well, if they turn one more baddie into the super equivalent of the hooker with the heart of gold I'm going to puke. I don't want to feel for every bad guy. I'll admit with Norman it worked, but then Ock, and Sandman, and Harry. My God, just want someone evil. Truly. In this respect I wasn't even looking very forward to the Lizard as the main villain in Spider-Man 4 because it was just going to be more of the same.

We need a new take on Spidey and there are a few ways to do it.

ONE: DO NOT REBOOT. The course laid is not irreparable; just continue from the ground work which has already been laid.

TWO: RECAST. Drop all the leading players. Hire new fresh actors for the role of Peter and Mary Jane. The supporting cast is perfect, JK Simmons, et al are really the heart and soul of the films thus far. JK has more charisma in a single scene than Dunst or Maguire have managed to muster in three films.

THREE: NEW DIRECTION. Yep, Sam. Ya gotta go buddy. Hire a new director who loves the material and has a passion for it. Someone that knows action and is less wrapped up in Parker’s soap opera.

FOUR: LESS SOAP OPERA MORE HERO. I know that Pete’s personal problems have always been a driving force in the comics, but they balance out with his hero antics. His life and his heroism interfere with one another, but they are not the same. In other words, enough crying every five minutes. Enough bitchy MJ; she gets he’s Spidey by now and is ready for it, enough “I don’t know if I can deal with this.” Ya can’t? Oh, well… Hi Gwen, you look pretty today. No more saving a squalling screeching MJ, please…E-[frick]IN’-NUFF already.

FIVE: WRITING. Hire a writer that knows Spidey, and can make the heroic hilarity we all know and love. When that mask is off Pete can be as quiet and meek and nerdy as possible, however, when he is in that mask he is nonstop verbiage. I want to have difficulty watching an action scene through tears of laughter. I want the villain to want him dead just so they can have a moment of peace.

SIX: MOTIVATION. Give me a vile irredeemable bad guy. Someone who just wants money or power and will do anything to get it; Scorpion, Electro, Mysterio, Shocker, Rhino, etc.
I would love to see Lizard vs. Kraven, but I just kind of want to have a break from the sympathetic bad guy routine.

SEVEN: RECLAIMATION. If Sony is too stupid to realize even at the quality 1 & 2 were that they were sitting on a goldmine, then I’m sorry they don’t need the character. Either Sony steps away from direct involvement in the films or Marvel/Disney needs to buy the rights back and remake Spidey in their own image, because if Spidey 3 was any indication of Sony’s level of competence when they become involved then I don’t want to see a 4th with equal involvement.

Goddamit you stupid Sony [frick]ers, Lizard and Kraven makes so much sense! Maybe have Bruce Campbell at the start of Spidey 4 as a pre-Mysterio Quentin Beck who gets humiliated on the set of Mary Jane's latest movie.

Then for Spidey 5, bring Bruce back as the proper Mysterio and then have a comedic battle between him and Spider-Man where he gets arrested. Then have Vulture and Electro as the main villains and have a criminal partnership between them much like the original idea for Spider-Man 3, with Vulture bullying Electro to help him with his crimes.

Then Spidey 6, Venom returns to battle Spidey one-on-one and then he goes to get help and forms the Sinister Six from Electro, Vulture, Kraven, Mysterio, a feral Lizard and of course himself. Epic final battle between Spidey and the Sinister Six and then end of the current Spidey movies. Easy as that you [frick]ing Sony idiots!

GODDAMITTTT! I HATE SONY! LOOK AT HOW WELL MARVEL IS DOING WITH IRON MAN 2! GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER!

I apologise for my outburst but these Spidey movies need to be sorted out soon or the franchise will end on the crappy Spider-Man 3!

brilliant points nerosday

I BET RAIMI WANTS TO DO THE LIZARD BUT THE STUDIO IS AGAINST A CREATURE CHARACTER, MAYBE RAIMI FEELS FORCED AGAIN AND THATS WHY PRODUCTION IS SHAKY OR THE SCRIPT IS INCOMPLETE...CMON...VULTRESS? THAT'S GETTING OUT THERE, RAIMI IS OLDSCHOOL SPIDERMAN, HE KNOWS IT ALL...VENTURING TOO FAR FROM THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT WOULD MAKE ANY FAN OF THE SOURCE MATERIAL HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS OR BE INDECISIVE. TRUE THERE WAS A VULTURE COPYCAT OR A FOLLOW IN FOOTSTEPS TYPE IN THE COMICS BUT RAIMI IS OLDSCHOOL..HE LOVES THE BEGINNINGS..I SAY THEY SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH THE LIZARD...BESIDES YOU SHOULD HAVE GOT BEN KINGSLY OR JEAN LUC PICARD TO PLAY VULTURE...GEEZ....

Shaman - 12/17/2009, 11:18 AM
StrangemannX09- And it's not like i'm pulling a muscle either, this is simple logic! There's a character that's been built so then MUST be used. His character is a "Jekyl/Hyde" concept which we all know, doesn't pull it's own weight for a feature blockbuster if it wants to break even or have a chance at making a profit IN OUR DAY AND AGE. Now... since we have a beast on our hands which has an emotional tie with the hero, who's the threat? Who could be interfering with the duo in order to spice things up? In other words, who would be best equipt to hunt the beast or a spider/man??? KRAVEN!!! Of course Kraven alone can't pull his own weight either, IT'S THE COMBINATION OF THE TWO WHICH MAKES FOR THE PERFECT LOVE/HATE/HUNT TRIANGLE!!! You'd hardly even need a love story in this one aside from Kraven & Calipso's!!! I don't know about you guys, but that just SCREAMS box office CASH!!! How the [frick] could someone brainfart Vulture & Vulturess over a LOGICAL and WINNING concept??? IT MAKES NO SENSE!!! And if Sony halted the script to switch from Vulture to Kraven & Lizard, then i'm sorry to say that i agree with Darth in saying that THIS TIME, it appears that the Studio is the one making sense!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 12/17/2009, 11:33 AM
@ gunsmith: My take on this is the opposite. I think it's Raimi that wants this "Vultress" horse shit, and it's the studio that wants Lizard and Kraven. Isn't that right?
Set2Fallfirst
Set2Fallfirst - 12/17/2009, 11:34 AM
Boo on you raimi I get he likes old school characters. But come on he is gonna pull a spiderman 3 if he doesnt get his sh*t together seriously. He should have done venom last movie he just should have as a main villain its that simple but know he wanted to do what HE wanted. Its about incorporating what we ALL want. If anything venom shouldnt have been in the third one at all. but i dont wanna get on 3 we all know about 3. back to 4 he needs to not do vulture thats a horrible idea I mean i like the character yes but lizard and kraven needs to be done or lizard and something doc connors has been in he dark way to long and the more i heard about this whole anne hatahway as the vulturess mistress thing and the vulture makes me cringe
MikeZ
MikeZ - 12/17/2009, 11:45 AM
They said by January it should all be settled. Why not just go with the Lizard? Dr. Curt Conners was featured through the last two movies, so now it's time to get his alter-ego some much-needed shine. Then throw in Kraven as the solution to stop the Lizard's rampage, then he can focus his sights on Spider-Man as per request by J. Jonah Jamison (unless he had a change of heart in the last film, since he was there during the Venom/Sandman battle).
Shaman
Shaman - 12/17/2009, 11:50 AM
That's what i'm getting from it too, Darth! Sony has surely heard the fans SCREAM for Kraven & Lizard yet Raimi wants to push his stupid Vulture down our throats. Sony isn't stupid ya know. They pushed for Venom cause they wanted to please the fans and give them what they wanted which was Venom. RAIMI ASS RAPED VENOM, not Sony. All that Sony wanted was a damn Spidey movie with Venom in it. Raimi didn't like the idea and it damn well showed. I mean, i don't like it when studios overstep their bounds but in the end, IF THEY ARE RIGHT, why the hell not??? The studios want the fans' money and i'm sure they wouldn't willingly go against them especially after what happened in the last movie. I think the best idea here would be to let Raimi go and get idk... JJ. Abrams or McTeigue or The Wachowski's. Sony will not want to deal with Raimi if he's gonna pull another job like he did with Venom.

Of course we don't know all the facts but from this news, that's what it looks like. Who's right in the end??? THE DAMN HIGH PAYING FANS, THAT'S WHO!!!

KRAVEN VS. LIZARD FOR THE NEXT SPIDER-M4N MOVIE!!!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 12/17/2009, 12:02 PM
lol @ Shaman.. Exactly. They wanted him to do Venom and he didn't want to, so he did the ass rape version. That is exactly how it happened, and it seems clear that this is jus another repeat

I am starting to question Sam Raimi's sanity a little bit. He's got the keys to a great movie staring him in the face, but instead of going with that, all he can think about is dressing sexy Anne Hathaway up like a carrion bird. What a clown. I think that Thor and Cap are going to make SM4 look like shit ran over twice.

You do have some good ideas, nerosday. But for the moment being, until we get things clear, i have to side with Sony on this, not Raimi. Unless he comes out saying HE's the one NOT wanting Vulture... but he already did say that he did want him in it.

Darth- You couldn't be more right even if i paid you to!!! Raimi has fallen off the potato wagon! If he's the one pushing for this Vulture shit, he lost his damn head! A dog turd in traffic is EXACTLY what "Spider-M4n" will be if they go with Vultre/Vulturess!!!

This franchise just makes too much money to be on hold for very long. Have an opening scene with Spidey taking on Vulture. vulture gets caught, goes to jail not to be seen again. Move on to Kraven/Lizard storyline. Everybody wins. Multiple villains can work in a movie, they just can't be in the whole damn thing!
