Peter Parker's Dad Lives In Alternate AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Ending (LQ)

Marc Webb planned a twist ending for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In it, Dr. Richard Parker (Campbell Scott) reveals to Peter (Andrew Garfield) he's alive and has been watching him become Spidey. Even says, "With great power comes great responsibility."

"Peter is approached by... his dad! Yes, Richard Parker shows back up at the end of the script, and he tells Peter he's been watching him for years. He's seen him become Spider-Man and everything. It's Richard who convinces Peter to become Spider-Man again, and in his last scene in the movie he tells Pete "With great power comes great responsibility," FINALLY working the famous phrase into this new series." - Devin of Badass Digest

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx is Electro and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.

I think this scene would make more sense if I turned my sound on...

turned the sound up way to high, heard the score from lotr playing in the background. It's a good scene but I'm really glad they didn't put this in the movie. Gwen's death and the aftermath was handled perfectly, this would've ruined it.

Glad this was cut, however. Of all the unnecessary sub-plots we don't need ANOTHER one for a character literally no one cares about and has made zero-impact to anything other than the tangled mess they call a story.

I wanted to put my fist through my screen when his father said, "With great power comes great responsibility."

Way to make Uncle Ben totally meaningless, Sony. Jackasses.

I never liked they way they changed Peters origin, why can't he of just been bitten by the spider and it gives him powers, instead of having to go through "my work was in you this whole time". Waste of a good story

This is horrible, please sell this back to Marvel, or revert back to Marvel, Marvel, Marvel

After seeing how amazing Guardians of the Galaxy was, Marvel really deserves to make a Spider-Man movie. I understand X-Men at Fox, but Spider-Man needs to come home to Marvel, this is getting ridiculous

One of the many reasons Spider-Man has appealed to me is because he is not destined to live up to some age-old prophecy. He just happened to be at the right place at the right time. It wasn't fate or destiny that gave him his powers. It was chance. This aspect played an important part in making him the relatable everyman people know him as.

These two stupid ass movies, on the other hand, say that Peter Parker is the only person in the entire world who could have become Spider-Man. In other words, it was meant to be. Add in the contrived conspiracies involving his useless parents nobody cares about, everything that made Peter able to relate to audience is crushed. And really, who wants to see a Spider-Man who is unrelatable?

I saw GOTG, Amazing Movie, Marvel is killing it, and it looks like that The Other being a version of Mephisto theory isn't going to happen, haha

Honestly would have preferred this ending to what we got. The 'with great power...' line is key to Spidey's entire motivations for becoming a hero and is missing in the TASM movie. Plus thematically it would have been a bigger shock that Gwen's predictable death and that awfully dumb and obvious super-metaphorical/foreshadowing speech.

@DrKinsolving Im not a huge fan of Marvel Studios but I agree that at this point I'd be happy seeing it in new hands. Unlike Fox who, imo, are producing great x-films and have a plan, Sony has no idea what the [frick] they are doing and haven't produced a good cbm since Spider-Man 2 a decade ago.

I agree, DOFP was a great movie, and Fox still has plenty of great X-Men stories to pull from

Sony is just destroying Spider-Man, the fact that Webb even filmed this scene is just pathetic, he doesn't understand Spider-Man, Peter Parker, Uncle Ben, The Osborns, the list goes on and on.... he just doesn't understand the characters

Sorry for bashing because I know there are people who actually like this franchise (which I will never understand) but this scene proves how bad things have gotten for Spider-Man at Sony

"With Great Power...Comes Great Responsibility"

I had a feeling that they wanted to incorporate this line within this film somehow. It's just a bit weird how he's been "watching" all of this stuff happen. Then again he was keeping a low profile so that he wouldn't endanger his son anymore. I actually don't mind this scene and Garfield showed his acting skills within it as well. This would've really surprised me if they had this in the original cut.

THey have no idea how to handle Spidey...Sony. Kurtzman and Orci do t know shit. Raimi, with Spidey 1 and 2, gave us a great Spidey. Maybe te charter needs to be left alone and sold back to Marvel and redone a few years down the line. I like Garfield so keep him

I'm tired of sad Spider-man.

I'd like to see a happy Spidey for once! I mean I get it that he has a lot of bad stuff happen to him but he usually always makes the best of it.

In this series he just seems to mope around and feel sorry for himself.
