Beeox studio chief Dee Brown shares some interesting info about working on The Amazing Spider-Man video game, primarily his statements about working closely with Marvel and Sony and the inclusion of the Black Cat leads me to believe that before the Spider-Man reboot is rebooted, we may see the Black Cat on the big screen. Said Brown---
"The fact that our game is based on the movie, and the movie is re-approaching the universe in a completely different way — a more grounded, more realistic approach — gives us an incredible setting to play with.....Because we've based our story AFTER the movie, it's allowed us a world of opportunity from a creative standpoint."
Brown said that he met with execs from Sony Pictures and
Marvel Studios at the early development stage to present and exchange ideas.
"They really liked our story, and how we're approaching Gwen and Connors and the relationship between all those characters based on what they're doing in the movie. They've been really supportive of what we've been doing with things like adding additional Marvel characters like Rhino," said Brown.
Brown also touched on the obvious comparison gamers will make to Rocksteady's Batman video game series, with similarities like updating battle damage to Spider's costume, a fighting system that has been described as nearly identical and a Spidey Cave (Peter Parker will be renting an apartment in Manhattan) it's not hard to imagine why.
"I played both Batman games and liked them," said Brown. "For me, the Spider-Man character is very different than Batman. You have to approach both in a different way. I think the Rocksteady guys did a good job at providing what was required to make a great Batman game, and we're doing everything we need to this time to make a great Spider-Man game."
But back to the news that the game will feature The Black Cat. With Sony repeatedly beating it over our heads that this is 'The Untold Story' it's definitely plausible that future installments of Marc Webb's Spider-Man series could feature Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat. A big part of Peter Parker and Spider-Man's life is his relationship with Felicia and that was something completely left out of Sam Raimi's trilogy. It could be a neat, surprising twist if instead of giving audiences the assumed Gwen Stacy/Mary Jane Watson love triangle we get a Gwen Stacy/Felicia Hardy love interest conflict. Hardy would bring a new dynamic to Parker's love life from what we've previously seen in Spider-Man films as she's more apt to rescue Spidey than the other way around. The key thing to remember is that the game is set AFTER the movie so it's possible that this is a direction Sony and Webb could be looking to go.
