UPDATE: Early Tracking For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Predicts A $125 Milion Opening

Spider-Man may have last been seen in the underwhelming Spider-Man 3, but that has done little to deter moviegoers from wanting to see Marc Webb's reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, as early tracking has it set to open at an impressive $125 million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, pre-release tracking for The Amazing Spider-Man suggests that it will have a six day opening of $125 million +. This will be one of the best openings of the summer blockbuster season, beaten only by the incredible record set by Marvel's The Avengers ($258 million). Tracking isn't always that reliable, but still shows that there is a lot of interest from males of all ages and a fair bit from females under the age of 25 (more than likely due to the popularity of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone). In comparison, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man opened to $144 million, Spider-Man 2 to $180 million, and Spider-Man 3 to $176 million. Stay tuned to CBM over the next couple of weeks as I'll be bringing you both my review of The Amazing Spider-Man and an exclusive interview with director Marc Webb.

UPDATE: The Los Angeles Times reports that The Amazing Spider-Man is more likely to hit the $150 million mark during its first six days of release, although Sony Pictures have declined to comment on these claims.

The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

It's actually not that high because it's a 6 day estimate. I'd look at that as disappointing.

I think this movie will do well in the end. What might turn most people off is that it's starting over.

It'll be interesting to see since it's being released on a Tuesday how much it really does with word of mouth, it's hard to compare with boxoffice total when the other trilogy were released on Friday...

Hm.. i don't know, but i am 100% sure it won't beat The Avengers' awesomeness! :-D

For such an early reboot and considering the competition this year in the form of The Avengers in May-June and The Dark Knight Rises in July (only 2 weeks after TASM's release date), this figure if correct or close to the real figure is amazing.

Let see spiderman will need to make tons of cash in 2 weeks before the dark knight rises is release afterwards.

If twilight final crap film makes it to the third highest film, this world can kiss my ass

Well, we all know how reliable these predictions are. Remember, 2 weeks before the Avengers came out, it wasn't supposed to break $150 million. Then a week before it came out it was only supposed to do $165 (a little less than Harry Potter), then after the opening Friday, they were saying $185 million, then after Saturday it was $200+. I would be shocked if the first 6 days don't net $160 million+.

Its funny because none of us should want this film to do good... (because in the very rare case it doesn't do good, maybe, just maybe the rights would revert)

But its Spider-Man so it will probably do good.

It's definitely going to do well A. Because it's Spiderman. B. The popularity of the Avengers will definitely help boost sales.

I don't know that is 125 is impressive or not!
But it's final tally should be over 300-325; otherwise it's wouldn't be considered a success. As previous SpiderMan films have got Incredible success; SM1: 404, SM2: 373, SM3: 336!!

Plus there adjusted & ticket sales would be even bigger & TASM is in 2D & IMAX 3D as well!
350 is a must... Unless not so impressive Word or Mouth brings it down!!

& the reason Avengers tracking couldn't predict 207 million is cuz film opened overseas a week before & positive reviews came in huge numbers; hence 150-160 opening exploded!!
But early reviews of TASM aren't incredible as AVENGERS & it opens same time so tracking is a lot closer & accurate; I feel.

& I don't think TDKR will have any effect on TASM BoxOffice; cuz it will be in theatres for over 2 weeks, & it would've reached aprox 80% of its entire gross in 2 weeks!!

So TDKR can't do much or any damage, neither TASM can to TDKR in BoxOffice!!

To everyone who wants this movie to fail so that the rights will revert back to Marvel... Sorry to bust your bubble but...

If this movie fails, we won't be seeing Spidey in the big screen for a very LOOOOONG time. Probably about 10 or 12 years at least. No one will want to see the webslinger again if this movie fails (I'm talking about the general audience).

CaptainAmerica31 - 6/21/2012, 9:38 AM
I don't want this movie to fail Becuase I want more Spidey movies to come! If it fails the rights wil revert but they wot make a movie till 15-20 years later! I don't want that it was only 5 years and I was dying to see a spiderman film. Who cares anyways marvel studios movies are always not as good as they could be except the avengers.
CaptainAmerica31
CaptainAmerica31 - 6/21/2012, 9:43 AM
@filmsfan TASM reviews are on par with the avengers reviews. Mostly 4/5 and a couple 3/5 and only 1 2/5 it has the same ratio of positive to negative reviews as the avengers did. Also many of the reviewers did state that TASM is on par with the avengers if not better.
