UPDATE: Marvel Cinematic Universe Easter Egg Spotted In AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Set Photo?

Last year, it was reported that Oscorp Tower was set to appear in the skyline of The Avengers, but those plans were scrapped due to time constraints. Well, it now appears as if a reference to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made it into The Amazing Spider-Man sequel!

Last year, there were countless rumours indicating that The Amazing Spider-Man would be set in the same universe as The Avengers, but as we now know, they ultimately came to nothing as there was absolutely no sort of crossover between the two movies. Well, the guys over at io9 have been sent the following set photo which seems to at least indicate that director Marc Webb is attempting to make a reference of sort to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While complicated issues with the rights of Spider-Man mean that it's unlikely we'll ever see him assemble alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the fact that they're using the "Stark Industries" logo in this way makes you wonder if they're building towards...something! Either way, this will surely be a step in the right direction in the eyes of most fans. Whether or not it actually ends up in the movie remains to be seen!

"I live in Brooklyn and they're shooting Spider-Man 2 a few blocks away. I walked by as they were unloading some costumes and noticed this motorcycle with a Stark Industries logo. Looks as if Marvel might be trying to bring these characters into a shared universe."

UPDATE: Or not? One of io9's readers has contacted them to say, "It has nothing to do with Spider-Man. I live in the neighborhood and that motorcycle belongs to a guy who lives around here."

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson
Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon/Electro
Sally Fields as Aunt May

RELEASE DATE: May 2nd, 2014.

Nice! Love that they're (seemingly) bringing MCU references into this film. Can't wait to see what this'll lead into.

Oh @white, you are exactly the kind of person I am talking about, you are so blind to the obvious due to being to stubborn, or hard headed to except it, and just be happy about it.

I think Marvel and Sony have reached an agreement about the usage of Spiderman in the MCU

it could be just a nice little wink, or maybe he's in the MCU for real. I guess we'll find out next year.

Could be something else (like that Robin logo on the audiences' boards in The Dark Knight Rises), but pretty cool, I guess. I'll be glad if this Spider-Man becomes a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and if it's indeed true, then hopefully they spare the mystery of the Parkers for some S. H. I. E. L. D. connection.

I still don't want him in The Avengers sequel, though.

Hopefully this isnt someone messing with us

and hey they could say he wasnt bitten by the spider during the invasion

But come to think about it, what does Stark Industries have to do with a motorcycle? I think the possibility now is that it's just a fan's doing. Especially, yes, since that sticker is a commonly sold one.

@Lizardking71 that is simple, as The Amazing Spider-Man came out after the avengers, and there where cranes all over the city, you can just say it was set like a year or so after the avengers boom no problem!!!

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige is producing this film

@LizardKing71
There's two explanations for Spider-Man: the first would be that the invasion happened prior to the events of TASM, which would explain the heavy amount of construction occurring around Manhattan in TASM. The second is Peter is already Spider-Man during the events of The Avengers, and he simply wasn't able to get to Manhattan in time. He's still a high schooler, in Queens, and the battle lasted no more than half an hour. Peter would presumably have to find a way to sneak out of class, change into his costume, and then webswing all the way over to the city, which would take a while. By the time he got there, the battle would already have been over.

i agree that it might just be a MCU fan that is over there during the filming. The stark industries logo might just be a sticker or the same as how you see cars nowadays with autobot and decepticon logos on their bumpers.

@TheSpaceGhost: Doesn't really mean anything, as Feige has been an executive producer for the majority of Marvel based films since the original X-Men movie.

Also, Oscorp Tower appears in this piece of promotional material for the Lego Iron Man 3 kits that I picked up yesterday at a screening of Iron Man 3.

They're handing these out at Cineworld Cinemas.

What do you think Josh?
koolaidbag
koolaidbag - 4/27/2013, 12:06 PM
@PaulRom, here is the difference though, he isn't an executive producer like he was on the first film, and any other films not in the MCU, he is a flat out Producer on this film
TheSpaceGhost
TheSpaceGhost - 4/27/2013, 12:07 PM
@PaulRom

Executive Producer and Producer are two different departments.
Avi Arad has been the main Marvel influence on the Spider-Man cinematic franchise.
Now it's Avi and Kevin, which in essence means they are pushing towards something, perhaps a joint universe, and the former president of Sony pictures Matt Tolmach is also open to these things.
