CBM ARTICLE: Theory on The Lizard’s Endgame!

By Robert Garlen/TheManOfSteelReturns

Many fans of the Amazing Spider-Man comic book are eagerly awaiting the new Sony Pictures film of the same title. In this adaptation of the marvel character stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Dennis Leary, Sally Fields, and Martin Sheen. We know the basic plot is a sight retread of the origin with a rumored new take on it (Oscorp producing the spider, Peter’s parents involved, webshooters, a new villain) While still keeping the basics (Spider-bite=powers, love story interwoven, Spider-Man =Public menace) And with that comes the most interesting factor of any super hero movie; The Villain, The central antagonist in this film, Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard.

While Oscorp will probably represent big business and have some evil backdoor experiments to show corporate monarchy as being evil, no doubt the fans are, justifiably, more interested in the Lizard. Sad thing is he looks like Ditko’s drawing mixed with the Super Mario Bros. Movie Goombas. The new look isn’t entirely bad, many fans are hoping for a change in design (e.g. a snout, lab coat) personally I can live with what’s there.

What I’m here to talk about is the Lizard, and well his endgame, his master plan, his moment of evil geniuses. Many clues have lead to the idea that the Lizard is going to be turning others into the same monster he himself is, while Dr. Conners begins suffering from a psychological desire for the power the Lizard brings, so in spirit, he’s not a bad guy, just a guy that’s been screwed over one too many times and has the power to avenge it.

What befalls Conners is a lust for power and a mad scientist’s whit. With his power as the Lizard it’s going to corrupt the man; not dissimilar to the tentacle corrupting Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2. But what it could it all be built up for?

“There’s rumor of a new species in New York, It can be aggressive if threaten!”-Dr.Conners, The Amazing Spider-Man.

It’s supported on a fair amount of evidence that the Lizard plans to mass produce the serum and distribute it via the Oscorp Tower, seen in the trailer. Dr.Conners will obviously suffer from insanity and power lust once he uses the serum on himself.

In the trailer you can see a half transformed Ifans, Mad with oncoming power, speaking to the hero; “If you want the truth Peter, come and get it!” – Dr.Conners, before battle.

It is easy to believe that there will be possibly 3 fight scenes, split up throughout the film and 3 transformation scenes:

-Transformation in the office, escape/exploration. Parker threatens Conners to not use the Serum again, Conners threatens “There’s rumor of a new species in New York, It can be aggressive if threaten!”

-Transformation in the school, attacking kids, runs off to sewers

-Spidey goes looking for Conners finds him in sewers [possibly right before he reuses the serum on himself to become the Lizard again] the Fight Scene leads all over the sewers. After Transformation Conners decides to use his serum to change all of New York into the same species.

-Final transformation, Fight scene on the bridge, escalates into a police matter, Lizard splits while Spidey has to take on some cops.

-Spidey defeats the cops and runs straight after the Lizard (notice as he’s heading to the tower he has claw marks on his chest, while he fights the police he also has claw marks)

-finds him ontopof Oscorp tower and the final battle ensues. Spidey beats Conners, probably ends with Conner’s death [my beat he falls to his death], while Spidey rips apart the Oscorp tower.

Then shocker ending/tranistion into AMS2, Norman Osborn finds Conner’s serum tries to improve it, becomes the Green Gobin.

Good eye! Speaking of eye, your teaser image, has anyone aside from me notice that the eye doesn't seem to fit the formation of Conner's face, like it could be the eye of one of the other swat lizards Conner's makes.

you know this is a long shot but maybe thats Van-Atter, maybe Conner's turns him, i think he was in the trailer, the guy in the cab. Anyone notice the reflection of someone's feet in his eye?

i like it! i only worry that if they do green goblin people will complain again because he's already been in a movie. i mean you've seen how people already react because of another origin story. i could see oscorp being part of the sequel but also a different bad guy that hasnt been on screen before to keep the movie audience happy

It'd definitely be a nice twist to have Osborn take on his Ultimate counterpart form.

That sounds cool, but I would MUCH rather if they did the original Green Goblin and not the Ultimate version.

That version of the Green Goblin would be too similar to The Lizard and The Hulk.
