Recently Marc Webb has been giving hints to Rhino on his twitter page through photos. And it seems that his russian background will play a part in the movie. Rhino is a big, fast, and powerful character that leaves destruction in his path. Rhino is virtually indestructible making one of Spiderman's toughfest foes. How would he be portrayed on screen? This Rhino may come from the Tree of Life of Oscorp labs, making him an experiment from the likes of Norman Osborn. How would Rhino look? I prefer motion capture cgi like the Avengers Hulk. Favoring ILM to help with special effects. Rhino running through New York making destruction in his path will be great to see on screen. if done right he can be a fan favorite like Hulk in the Avengers.

That's why I feel Rhino is going to be the muscle in the movie and bring the majority of the action, while Jamie Foxx/Electro will be more story based psychological drama, action and pretty special effects. Don't get me wrong I believe Jamie Foxx/Electro will bring the action, but I feel Jamie will be the mouthpiece while Rhino does the dirty work. Brains and muscle. Being a dynamic duo. Electro will have his story and Rhino will have his minor story. All making it a great ride.Rhino will be a chunky supporting role that ups the ante on Spiderman. I cant wait for the speed and the sheer strength of the Rhino and the crazy destruction.

More cars thrown Spoderman's way. More everything.

Cool article! Since Electro is most likely mutated by an experiment of accident in OsCorp, maybe he enlists the Rhino's help (who is also probably from OsCorp). Or, maybe he's just the big boss battle at the end of the film. Either way, looking forward to TASM2!

However, I hope there isn't a love triangle between Peter, Gwen, and MJ. They could all be like friends, and when Gwen dies, Peter and MJ start a relationship in TASM3. A love triangle would be just too cliché.

@hush2010: too many villains.

My thing is, Rhino could be a reason if not the reason why this one will go down the drain. He's my only concern. Electro was a concern until they changed his character and made him interesting.

Giamatti is playing JJJ.
Colm Feore is playing Roderick Kingsley or an FBI guy.
Felicity Jones is Betty Brant.

Is ya gonna make Rhino purely the 'muscle' of the villains then there is zero reason for having Paul Giamatti in the role.

He is too good to waste on that.

I hate when people say that a movie has "too many villains". All because of Spider-man 3 and executive meddling.

Check out Batman Begins, please, if you want a semi-recent example. Ra's al Ghul is the head honcho, and is the first to appear - then we get sidetracked to the past and explore the criminal element of Gotham. Joe Chill murders Thomas and Martha Wayne, effectively driving Bruce to becoming Batman, effectively becoming THE villain that Batman will always be hunting down, but never succeeding. Why? Because while still in flashback mode, years later, mob boss Carmine Falcone has Joe Chill killed while leaving court, robbing Bruce of his opportunity to shoot Chill and throw his future away. Now we have TWO established villains, one dead, one still very active, while a third (being the most important) educates Bruce on the ways of becoming a force like Batman.

After learning that he was only being trained in the League of [Shadows] to infiltrate and destroy Gotham, Bruce sabotages their headquarters, fights the apparent "Ra's al Ghul" to the death, and escapes with his very misguided mentor who claims to be Henri Ducard. And while the Ra's al Ghul decoy isn't the big man in charge, Bruce views him as such, and is driven by this revelation of what would have been Gotham's impending destruction, giving Bruce the final bit of motivation to become Batman and protect his city.

We jump back to Gotham in present time and Mr Zsaaz is escaping a prison sentence courtesy of one Jonathan Crane, who would become the Scarecrow. Although Zsaaz is clearly more of an antagonist to Rachel Dawes, WE the audience are meant to see him as an obvious criminal who is circumventing the system through Crane. Zsaaz is an obvious and more physical embodiment of Gotham's corruption. Crane is quickly shown to be working with none other than mob boss Carmine Falcone, and it is teased during that scene that the two are working for a higher authority. Extending into the corrupt city official department is the introduction to Jim Gordon's partner, the disgusting [Arnold] Flass, who is also quickly revealed to be working for Falcone.

Count em: 1) Joe Chill, 2) Carmine Falcone, 3) Ra's al Ghul (decoy), 4) Mr Zsaaz, 5) Scarecrow, 6) Flass, and last but certainly not LEAST 7) the real Ra's al Ghul.

Every one of these gets their "takedown", they all contribute to the story, and they all mean something to Batman. All in the span of 2 hours and 21 minutes.

Execution is the key.
---

We don't know nearly enough about TASM 2 to make that assessment here. However, I think it would be cool if there was a "Russian Department" (although that might come off as a bit harmful) of supervillains Rhino, Kraven, and the Chameleon. I believe that IF Rhino is indeed in the movie (and it's all-but-confirmed), he'll be more of a mech than a man in an giant suit, and I think it would be interesting if Alexsei Sytsevich was a leg amputee.

Time will tell as always.

I'm more concerned about Webb's direction and the producers brilliant ideas.

The Lizard basically had the same origin as Green Goblin and was a run of the mill villain. Instead of being a parallel to Peter's transformation and tragic figure whose good intentions result in something bad they made him just turn evil after the dose - screw his arm or being against dosing veterans against their will.

On top of that there was the failure to juggle the supporting cast which only consisted of Captain Stacy, Gwen, Flash, Ben and May Parker.

I'm hoping for a major improvement in the sequel

That idea for Rhino could definitely work, as I could see Rhino's skin/armor/whatever it will be described as is immune to Electro's lightning, and depending on the sroty they write, Rhino may need something only Electro can provide, making them team-up to get rid of the Spider and get their plan moving. Also, as you said the brains and muscle dynamics can be great, and it hasn't been used in Spider-Man (yeah I know, Venom and Sandman... but they wasted it)

Rhino should be in a fight sequence with Spiderman within the opening five minutes of ASM2 and nothing more. Perhaps a team-up with Electro
