Suicide Squad currently has a score of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes (the same as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), but that hasn't stopped people from checking the movie out. The David Ayer helmed release nearly doubled Guardians of the Galaxy's Thursday August record of $11.2 million by earning a whopping $20.5 million for an estimated weekend haul of around $140 million in North America.

Warner Bros. has dialled back expectations at least somewhat by estimating an opening of $100 million - $125 million, but coming in around that range would still see it break the August record. Should it end up nearer to $140 million, that would also give Suicide Squad the third highest debut in 2016 behind only Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman. That's an impressive feat for sure.

With little to no competition this weekend, Suicide Squad is going to do well regardless of the critics. Should moviegoers not like it though, it could end up plummeting by this time next week. We'll see.

@xhazardx - LMAO! I am sure the Marvel trolls and fanboys are going to pull out the ..........well it will drop next week card.....which it may or will. Though it just destroyed that record for GOTG.

I guess they should have added a dance scene at the end to make sure it has legs.
