SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Explains One Of The Movie's Most Sinister Joker Scenes

As comic book fans, we're used to dissecting pretty much every scene in superhero movies, but Suicide Squad director David Ayer has now explained the significance of some items in one key Joker moment...

Jared Leto's Joker was, well, weird, and it's no secret that Oscar-winner Jared Leto's behaviour behind the scenes was every bit as peculiar. With so many of his Clown Prince of Crime's scenes left on the cutting room floor, though, fans can't help but be curious about what we missed in Suicide Squad.

One moment, in particular, which has really stuck with fans was the sight of The Joker laughing maniacally on the floor while he's surrounded by all manner of weapons...and baby clothes.

Well, when one fan asked director David Ayer whether that was meant to be an indication that The Joker and Harley Quinn killed some babies (they did murder Robin, remember), the filmmaker explained that, no, the villain had ordered that clothing because he was aware of Harley's desire to start a family.

That was something we saw in the fantasy Enchantress promised her, and it's a subtle nod from Ayer which successfully ties two very different scenes in Suicide Squad together.

However, with Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey making it clear that the titular character's time with her Puddin' has reached its end, her hopes of having a baby are likely long forgotten now. On the plus side, Ayer's explanation addresses something fans have been wondering about for a while now, as there are plenty of theories online about what this scene was supposed to mean!

So many bad choices in this movie that I never even noticed the baby clothes. I was probably still distracted by the horrible tattoos, even months after seeing them for the first time, to notice.

Gotham did a (WAY) better Joker than Suicide Squad... And they weren't even allowed to call him The Joker.

If they can do this in a 90's cartoon, we should be able to get it in a movie

@dracula - the PC police were only really starting to ramp up in the 90's. They're in full force today. Too many feelings get hurt too easily today.

I’m still one of the few people that blame Ayer for Jared’s terrible performance and it’s simple...

1. Ayer wrote his lines
2. Signed off on the “damaged” look
3. Directed him as to how to act
4. Directed Bright

@HulkisHorny - agree, although Warner brothers deserves some of the blame, for not giving him much time to write the script and cast

@dracula - "Joker and Harley"? I have serious doubts about this supposed "clamor of the crowd" for more Harley Quinn.
