SUICIDE SQUAD Star Will Smith Won't Face Charges For Slapping Chris Rock, But May Have To Return His Oscar!

Social media is still abuzz after the shocking events of last night's Academy Awards show, and we now have an update on potential charges Will Smith could face after slapping Chris Rock in the mush.

In one of the most shocking moments in the history of the Academy Awards broadcast, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Many believed it must be some sort of stunt at first, but the aftermath seemingly made it clear that the whole thing was very real.

The incident arose from Rock quipping, “Jada, I love ya. GI Jane 2 — can’t wait to see it,” while presenting Best Documentary Feature. The Matrix Resurrections actress, who has previously spoken publicly about her alopecia, was not impressed, and despite laughing at the joke initially, her husband then left his seat and struck Rock across the face.

The Suicide Squad star later won Best Actor for his performance in King Richard, and although he did apologize to the Academy and his fellow nominees, he didn't so much as mention Rock.

Smith could potentially face up to six months in prison and/or a hefty fine if Rock presses charges, but, for now, the Fargo actor has chosen not to pursue legal action.

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement via Deadline. “The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”

Rock has six months to file a report, but even if he doesn't, Smith may still face repercussions as Insiders believe he might be asked to return his Oscar for violating The Academy's code of conduct.

It was a bad look Will. He'd be on top of the world today if not for that moment

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Defended how?

@ShimmyShimmyYA - No one cares about his Oscar, and no one thinks that assault was the right way to defend his wife. All anyone can talk about is how he hit Chris Rock.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Jada prob gave him a slap to. He wasn't the bigger man there at all. He tainted his win..

Made Chris Rock into a legend. i like the new saying

"Chris Rock takes a slap better than Will Smith can take a joke".

Was a bad look for sure. I think he ended up embarrassing his wife more than defending her.

@TheMapleSyrup - Hitting is ALWAYS the last choice. Unless his wife was actually being attacked physically by Rock. Bad joke not a reason or we would be in wars.

@TheMapleSyrup -

Closed fist is assault. A slap across the face means STFU.

Seriously, who thought that joke would be a good idea. Girl has a disease that makes her hair fall out. It's not like a guy shaving his head to be more macho.

Whoever produced that show, wrote that joke and approved it to be used on air at such a high profile even is both an idiot and a fool and shouldn't even be allowed to produce local cable tv commercials.

He Will not, also, why are the Oscar's still even a thing?

@Manmarvel - Why does the show bother you so much? I don’t like The Masked Singer, so I don’t watch it. The awards don’t strictly mean anything; it’s a chance to appreciate the work and the people making them.

@Manmarvel - Because the professionals and movie fans still care about them. If you don't care, why are you here commenting? Not everything that exists has to appeal to you.

@grif - Do you watch the Academy Awards, on any given year?

@grif - Do you watch them? Do you care at all about the movies, the artists or the awards? If not, why the heck are you commenting here?

Will really let his emotions get to him. But I shouldn't be surprised. To be a good actor, you have to be really in touch with your emotions.

I also think from a deeper level, Will is tired of looking like a punk. Especially after the Jada cheating scandal was made so public a few years ago. So yeah his response was probably more self serving and personal than chivalrous.
Kudos for standing up for your wife, but at what cost?

@Vigor - did anyone actually pay attention to the talk they had? It wasn’t cheating

@Vigor - Yeah defo it seemed like "the straw that broke the camel's back" situation imo.
