It looks like James Gunn really is pulling out all the stops for his The Suicide Squad ensemble.

Following the news that Firefly actor Nathan Fillion has signed on for an undisclosed role, we're now hearing that none other than Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) is in negotiations for the Warner Bros. sequel. His part is also being kept under wraps, however.

Not only is Waititi returning to helm the fourth Thor movie for Marvel Studios, but he also has JoJo Rabbit and Next Goal Wins for Fox Searchlight, as well as a voice role in Disney+'s upcoming live-action Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.

The highly in-demand actor/director joins fellow new Task Force X recruits Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior and Storm Reid, along with returning stars Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney and Viola Davis. Plot details remain under wraps, but we may get a better idea of what to expect very soon as production is expected to commence in September.

Apparently, a table read for the film is taking place on September 11 with production expected to commence on Sept. 23. The Suicide Squad is set for release on August 6, 2021.
