After taking an additional $36.3 million on Sunday, the Zack Snyder directed and Christopher Nolan produced Man of Steel's new totals are $116.7 million for the three day weekend and a four-day total of $128.7 million (that's $3 million more than expected). To put that into perspective for you, Superman Returns' three-day total was $52 million, The Amazing Spider-Man's (another high profile reboot) earned $62 million and Marvel's The Avengers took a whopping $207 million. However you look at it, this was a great start for Man of Steel! The worldwide cume for the movie is now $200.3 million and it has gone down as having the best June opening of all-time domestically.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

RELEASE DATE: June 14th, 2013.

Good for them.

Before any other Marvel fans jump in to bash it, I'd like to say...as a Marvel fan, good job Snyder. It was definitely some fun action, and the relationships between Clark and pretty much everyone (but particularly Jonathan) were fantastic.

Note to Marvel fans...it's okay to like it or not like it, but there's really no need to bash it, or even contrast it against the movies you love. Marvel can make great movies, DC can too.

How the hell did the Hunger Games have a higher opening weekend than this?

To be fair avengers and iron had movies and a fan base behind it,so for man of steel to just come out with its first movie with nothing before it (not counting green lantern) that is pretty good

@SageMode

Oh wow, the third installment of a popular franchise made more money than the other films in said franchise AND the first installment of a franchise that's getting a fresh start, how shocking.
LEVITIKUZ
LEVITIKUZ - 6/17/2013, 10:16 AM
And Iron Man 3 is the fourth installment of the hero's journey while Man of Steel is a reboot who's back was against the wall after 3 horrible installments and who we didn't even know the public would welcome back.

Also Man of Steel doesn't need the main actor's name to sell a film.

Pretty good opening... but still a shite movie. It will fall hard next week when more people will realize that this is the most obnoxious Superman movie ever made. You wanted more action and you got a Michael Bay movie. Have fun in denial, Superman Returns haters!

Well only $800 million to go!
TheHitchhikingGhost
TheHitchhikingGhost - 6/17/2013, 10:26 AM
...and Superman Returns' budget was closer to 300 million (ridiculous), which is another reason WB wasn't keen on fast-tracking a sequel given that it only made 391 worldwide.

Considering this was a reboot to save the superman franchise and with an unknown actor as superman this did amazing. the second movie will double these numbers because now they trust the franchise.

The Dark Knight Trilogy and the name of Superman for starters.

Oh nah, but rather they need "Produced by Christopher Nolan, the director of THE DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY". And plus Superman's name alone would sell tickets. Not rocket science.

True the name were used around, but the big difference the trailers and interviews for IM3 keeping referring to Avengers etc... Hay give Marvel their props for some great marketing.

I thought it was decent. Seemed like the story jumped around too much and I didn't care too much for the Krypton intro.

Action was awesome. Admittedly, I'm more of a Marvel fan, so I did like Iron Man 3 more, but that's not to say Man of Steel wasn't a better movie. I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

savageguitarist - 6/17/2013, 10:31 AM
I noticed the people who didn't like this movie seem to like really cheesy kid friendly movies like avengers and superman returns. man of steel was amazing to me and very realistic. If superhumans existed that's the destruction I'd expect. The story was awesome because it got deep into supermans head and why he is who he is. so if you're complaining about lack of story you are either deaf or you are A.D.D. smh simple minded people ruin everything.

@JoeMomma29 More than 70 years of stories told in just about every medium imaginable, and a character that shares the same universe as a trilogy of recent Batman films that captured the imagination of the world. I wouldn't say Supes was fighting that much of an uphill battle to get comfy opening weekend.

@JoeMomma29

Nolan's name was attached in every trailer and tv spot, that's what MOS was riding off.Had Nolan been not attached to this project, the out come and box office would have been different, admit it :)

@jcfrommars9
A lot more people died in MOS than The Avengers, buildings were just faling down :) I loved MOS, good movie, had a few flaws but I'm looking forward to the sequel xD

@TeeKay- I'm pretty sure that less damage in this economy the better. So in your estimate Pacific Rim will only be good if they level a city or two. Then by your standards "2012" would be the greatest movie of all time.
TheHitchhikingGhost

Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel both kicked ass. Very happy they're both earning a lot of success.
