BOX OFFICE: MAN OF STEEL Opens With $5.86 Million In China
It's dominated in North America and overseas, so it should come as no surprise to learn that Man of Steel has opened at #1 in China. Hit the jump for further details on how well the Zack Snyder helmed and Christopher Nolan produced reboot has done in the country.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Man of Steel has dominated the Chinese box office on its first day of release after taking a total of 80% of all business on Thursday. Following an appearance from director Zack Snyder and star Henry Cavill at a gala premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival earlier this week, the reboot would go on to earn $5.86 million (36 million yuan) yesterday, kicking off a run which should help add a good amount to its total worldwide cume. However, Man of Steel does face some fairly stiff competition from Jet Li's Badges of Fury. To give you an idea of the importance of China's box office, Iron Man 3 took a whopping $120 million when it opened there and The Dark Knight Rises grossed over $50 million.
