“I told myself I’m gonna let it sit and simmer in the background. I never lost hope, that was the key for me.”

Henry Cavill finally made his long-awaited return as Superman for a brief mid-credits cameo in Black Adam, and the actor confirmed that he will be sticking around as the Man of Steel in the DCEU DCU for the foreseeable future earlier this week.

Now, the actor has sat down for his first interview since donning the iconic red and blue costume again, and it sounds like those partial to a more "hopeful" take on the legendary DC Comics hero have a lot to look forward to.

“The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope,” Cavill told the audience while chatting to Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”

Though Cavill's take on Supes is generally well-regarded, the darker interpretation of the character he played in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice came in for a lot of criticism. He did get the opportunity to add a more playful wrinkle to his portrayal in Justice League, but his work was largely overshadowed by that damn CGI jaw!

Cavill went on to reveal that he got the call to film his Black Adam scene while shooting Netflix's The Witcher, but wasn't allowed to disclose why he was asking for a break!

“I went to Warner Bros.’ studio in the UK and got back in the suit,” he added. “It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn’t sure how I would feel…whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the ‘Man of Steel’ suit back on. I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit. It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.”

We know Warner Bros. Discovery is currently developing another solo Superman movie and is soliciting writer pitches, but if Cavill knows anything about the project, he's not about to spill the details: "You know I can’t tell you that."

The interview is still taking place, and you can catch it live in the video below.
