More From Zack Snyder On Superman: Talks Costume, Pressure, Kevin Costner NOT Confirmed

In an update over at Hero Complex, Snyder gives us an idea of when me may see Henry Cavill in costume and speaks about the pressure of brining Superman to the screen again..

Geoff Boucher has posted an update to his interview with Zack Snyder. First of all he writes that Kevin Costner is NOT confirmed even though a previous report had listed him as a cast member. This may just be a formality and the info was not scheduled to be released at the time of the interview but as it stands, Kevin Costner is still just rumored as Jonathan Kent. Snyder also speaks a little more about the character of Superman, and suggests that his version might go against our "preconceived ideas" of the character..

“Superman is the one constant in the universe. You know that if you do Superman right — or at least if you do him with respect — you know you end up with something great…. [but] in some ways [beyond] that is virgin territory. No one knows what that is. In some ways Superman is the most recognizable superhero on the planet but also the most unknown. Just what he can be? People have preconceived ideas about him but probably all of them are wrong.”

When asked if he could reveal anything about the costume we would see Henry Cavill wear Snyder said that we will most likely see it before the film shoots..

”I can’t say — although I appreciate the question. I’d love to talk about it. We’re going to have to show it before we shoot, probably a while before that because [otherwise] someone will be on the set and get a picture of it.”

Boucher then asked if the sheer scale of this project ever gets intimidating..

“It is epic. But you just start with page 1, shot 1 and the next thing you know, you’re in it. And then you can’t go back. It’s the journey of 1,000 steps, as they say.”

Quit Zack, just quit! You're films are rubbish, don't make Superman rubbish. Go to Sunday School and do some cross stitching or something, just don't put your rubbish stamp on Superman.

Can't wait to see how this film turns out :)

Let's just hope that the suit's S Shield can't produce expanding shrink wrap S's and that Supe's doesn't have the ability to rebuild walls with blue eye beams!

RyKnow Your joking right?! Zack's made some AMAZING films in my opinion.
Well... to each his own I guess.

@ MrMurdock - Just an exaggeration mate. I'm just shocked that out of all the brilliant directors they had lined up, they picked Snyder. I know he was the, what was it 3rd choice, but still, someone else should have got the gig. Like you say though, to each his own.
His style in Dawn of the Dead was good. If he goes back to that style, this could be a half decent film imo.

Snyder seems like a cool dude, and he did such a faithful job to Watchmen (minus a certain point), i think he'll be faithful to the DC mythos.

I have faith he can deliver this. Nobody wants another gayed up chick flick. The superpowered boy scout thing is dated as hell, he should be god like but unless he has an opponent he can unleash against he's gonna just ponce about trying not to step on ants. I do want to know what makes him tick but I also want to see him rip it up - a lot.

If its anything like Watchmen I'll be happy. At least we know it's going to look amazing even if the story turns out to be shit.

Not much to go on there, but sounds interesting - we could be getting a very different Superman film to anything seen before. No doubt details will trickle out as he promotes Sucker Punch.

I just hope that if Snyder feels compelled to do Superman's origin for the 173,984,652,215th time (give or take one or two), that he does it behind the opening credits, much like the opening scene from the Watchmen (which was one of the best scenes in that movie). Why waste half an hour or an hour rehashing a story that virtually the entire audience (outside of maybe very small children) knows already?

Mostly, I just want to see a movie that is worthy of the character. Richard Donner did it in 1978. Just as with Batman, there are many ways to interpret Superman, and I hope that Snyder brings us a film that is as good as the 1978 classic (still my gold standard for great superhero films), but gives us an interesting new perspective on the character.

@teabag, probably because the movie came out in 1973 or so and has been on the telly at least once a year since as well as Smallville dragging the origin out ten years etc.

I agree with you, it's not been done to death, but there's no need to rehash it again

@Dean if only Smallville was about New Earth SUperman and not some Elseworlds version called The Blur, I'd agree with you. Since it ain't, I'm with @tea.

I wish we could see darkseid as the villain, but maybe it's too early for him. so, Brainiac?

sexfoodcomics - 3/17/2011, 7:47 AM
they already said it wont be an origin story. just cause clarks mom is in it doesnt mean its an origin. he probably goes back to see her to have that touching moment where he asks her " i dont know who i am" and she says " your my son, make me proud" and then he stays superman, hahah
RyKnow
RyKnow - 3/17/2011, 7:49 AM
@ Godzillafart - I more or less agree with everything you just said.

Your villains will be Lex Luthor and Brainiac. I definitely remember Goyer saying something about them two when he was writing the script. I can't honestly say, but I think I read it either on this site or Empire about a year or so ago. Of course, things might have changed by now though.

I agree with almost everyone about Superman needed to actually hit something in the next movie. I also want to see SUPERMAN PERFORM AN UNBELIEVABLE FEAT, it will blow my mind. In Donners films we got Supes reversing the orbit of the earth and turning back time to save lois. Shit even in Returns we got Routh lifting a city sized rock into space. That's where I want Snyder to deliver.

Of course there'll be an origin story - he said they're treating it as if there were no other movies - therefore the origin will be a necessity.

Looking forward to it.

Overrated? You mean the character who was the inspiration for the entire superhero genre and responsible for the establishment of the comic book industry as we know it? Nah, not hardly

@KeithM- Awesome! I can't wait to see "BaneCoward77" or oops sorry- "BaneKill77" waltz in here and start attacking me for wanting to see Superman fight someone ;D Or he'll probably get pissed at me for calling Brandon Routh "gay" and...oh wait I didn't say that actually, well what the hell- ROUTH IS GAY. Cue "BaneKill77" charging in here like a retard.

I think that gay guy needs his meds...his mydol...motherfu*ker is pissing me off.

But yeah this movie should OWN! Best of all- NO MORE BRANDON ROUTH!!! =D

thats funny coming from a guy with batman in his name

batman is the most overrated hero there is right now. hes not an actual superhero yet the general public thinks he can beat god. its failures like you who keep this trend going . oh and without superman there would be no batman or any other major superhero for that matter.

Now one piece of instruction for Snyder: You do NOT "F" with Supermans costume!!! No one F's with the costume!!!
