Russell Crowe Talks MAN OF STEEL

"It takes you to a planet where the sun is four times larger than ours. I think people are going to love it and if you've seen the trailer, you realize that this Superman is not just floating through the air, held up by a wire. This Superman is supersonic..." - Russell Crowe

Broken City | Russell Crowe | Hollywood Dailies | Movie Trailer | Review

When asked to discuss Zack Snyder's Man of Steel actor Russell Crow (Jor-El) shared the following:
"It's really complicated, it's really complex. I don't think anyone's really tried to get into the psychology of what it must be like to be Superman. And [how] people would really respond in a modern society if someone like that popped up. Zack Snyder who directed The Watchmen, who directed 300 and a few other things, he was given a great deal of responsibility. Because when it comes to comic book heroes and superhero films, at the top of the food chain is Superman. I think the biggest indicator for me as to how it's looking is that the financier of the film, a lovely fellow by the name of Thomas Tull- quite a reticent man, doesn't mince his word, he's sent me dashing e-mails, he just loves it and thinks its going to go down really well. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. It's a massive undertaking, the type of sets we worked on in that film were incredible. It takes you to the ground on Krypton. It takes you to a planet where the sun is four times larger than ours. I think people are going to love it and if you've seen the trailer, you realize that this Superman is not just floating through the air, held up by a wire. This Superman is supersonic, when he decides to fly, he doesn't muck around. I'm really looking forward to the way people respond to it."

I'm still kind of on the fence about MOS, but Crowe's casting alone has made me decide to pay the price for a movie ticket.

Quick confession: I am not a superstitious person but I fear that this could be the next Hulk because that came out in 2003 and this will come out in 2013. Both of them also have great actors and huge expectations as well. I even had a dream last night that I was extremely disappointed with movie.

@Levitkuz You seen the movie and ain't tell us??lol

But for real, from the second trailer, it look like it would be a real good movie. After Iron Man 3, MOS is the next CBM I'm ready to see.

If someone were to tell me around this time last year that I would be excited for a MOS movie, I would look at them like they were stupid. Well not only am I excited for the movie but also the MOS comic that's coming out around that same time.(How could you NOT be though?! I mean, it's being written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Jim Lee!)

@RR51, the biggest difference between this film and the Hulk is the director...Ang Lee is great for a movie like Life of Pi, not for a comic book character. I have faith that this movie will have an amazing story, and if Synder drops the ball on that at least we know with him the action will still be good.

I gotta agree w/Levitikuz, well idk about best of ALL time but I think its gonna be hard to overestimate this movie. I can just imagine what Snyder can imagine with the shots on Krypton. Imagine a battle scene full of Kryptonians! It's gonna be beautiful. I want this to put Superman back on top where he belongs.

Russell Crowe is one of the reasons I am NOT that excited about this film as of yet. I still think we are going to get an over-abundance of origin and emotional drama and little of Superman being Superman. Time will tell.

I've always felt like Marvels shared universe has hurt the solo films. Iron Man is the only one they seemed to get just right, but imo that didn't match the heights of Batman Begins or The Dark Knight or The Dark Knight Rises (Spare me the Nolanite accusations please, I've heard them all before).

You cannot just make a superhero film with a cliche origin and a very bland uninspired convenient villain to fight.

DC's approach to making these films are way better. I love seeing the superhero analyzed, focus on his true struggle, pain, and journey to become who he is. Don't introduce him with no real insight and then set up a villain. Focus on the hero and set up the villain as a part of the hero's past to learn who he is.

Never really liked Superman. Mind you, I probably haven't read any of his best source material (Though I love when he and Bruce get together). My opinion to date has been built primarily on outdated and/or frustratingly mediocre live action representations. Christ, Welling made me want to jump in front of a steaming locomotive. Rosenbaum and Durance were what kept me watching Smallville. But now I have, finally, some hope of seeing a Supes I can become a fan of. So excited!
