PopWrap also has this interview with Welling:

PopWrap: The network announced next year will be "Smallville's" final season -- bittersweet?
Tom Welling: That’s the funny thing. I’m really excited we have a season 10 – and I don’t want to jump to the sadness of it maybe being the last one. But we actually don’t know. We’ve lasted this long because the of the fans, who knows, if enough people watch this year ... eleven sounds pretty good too!

PW: The show started out with a "no tights, no flight" rule from the creators, but you guys have found clever ways around that over the years. Any feelings about actually seeing Clark slip into red and blue spandex?

Tom: I think there’s always a possibility of that. For me, one of the reasons I’ve felt like the show has been so great is because it follows Clark’s journey into becoming Superman. So if that happens, it will be very late in the season – even possibly the very last thing you see on "Smallville."

PW: What would you like to see next season?

Tom: I’d like to see him get out of the trouble he got into at the end of last season [laughs]. But mostly I’d like to see him with Lex again, I’d like to see Michael [Rosenbaum] back. I think it’d be cool to see Lana and Lois in the same room, that would be very interesting for Clark to be a part of. There’s Justice League possibilities, there’s a lot going on. Ten will be a huge season!

Last season of Smallville needs LEX LUTHOR, they need to bring back Michael Rosenbaum! Clark is gonna be Superman and there cant be a Superman without a Lex Luther so I hope Mike comes back just for a couple episodes, hes a great actor, Im sorry he left after season 7 I believe. Clark needs to be dark still that was pretty kool.

It's interesting seeing him in an interview. His mannerism are so different from Clark.
I like most of what he said, but hell no to a Clark Lana Lois triangle again! If Lana comes back, she should just be a friend.

i am a big fan of smallville but they need to decide if this is gonna be the final season or if there is gonna be an 11th because i would like to see some pretty good closer to a series instead of just ending. lots of series just dont get renewed after the season finale and then u get no closer, it just kinda bites and leaves fans of whatever series high and dry. angel brough some small closer but still left a small window for a movie or whatever even though i dont think it was done great either, it was like they found out it wasnt gonna be renewed with like 2 episodes left and rushed to bring everything together, i dont want that for smallville, either use this season to wrap it up or bring it back for another season but decide now instead of last minute

This is it for Smallville. At the end of season eight a deal with Tom Welling was negotiated for a ninth season, giving the network an option for a 10th. To go back and renegotiate yet again would just make the show far too expensive to produce. Besides, everyone seems to be in agreement -- including the network -- that 10 seasons is a high-water mark to go out on.

The fact that CW made the announcement that this would be the final season makes it pretty clear: the producers are being given the opportunity to bring it all to an end.

Hey at least he doesn't seem against wearing the REAL suit. Also I agree we need Lex to come back. I would be fine if he was just in the very last scene. I would be fine if he had hair and they said it was a wig! Just bring him back please!

Gambit89, I agree. Bringing her back would bring back all of the weaknesses that Smallville fell in to. That relationship never needs to be explored again.

I think he needs to be shot for ever suggesting a Lana and Lois triangle after he had the nerve to tell Lois that she's the one he always needed. Lana coming back to lose her powers is the only reason why I ever want to see her face again.

There's plenty of story with Darksied. They don't need to throw that drama in there. Want some drama? Have Lois's dad come on the show for an episode. He'll eat Clark alive!

Lex is a must though.
