There is growing speculation on various Superman and superhero related sites, that the script may be hiding Meloni's "true" identity as Lex.

What adds fuel to the fire? When casting information first came out it seemed everyone but Lois and Superman were playing generals (insert laugh here). Meloni went from being a general, to Colonel Hardy. When pressed about his role he sarcastically stated "I can't tell you, or I'd have to kill you..."
adding more mystique surrounding his role.
There was also speculation that part of his reason for leaving "Law and Order: SVU" was his role in "Man of Steel"
Is there a possibility that all this "Who will be Lex?" stuff will subside when it is revealed that Lex has been in the film all along?
Meloni could very well be playing a military related role, that is eventually going to be revealed as Lex Luthor.
