According to the Edmonton Journal, Culture minister Linsday Blackett confirmed that part of a Hollywood film will be shot in Alberta, Canada. And despite him not mentioning the what "Hollywood" film it'll be, an insiders of the source claims it'll be Zack Snyder's highly-anticipated Superman reboot.

An industry insider told the Herald that this likely means Superman: Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder's big-budget reboot, will have a unit shoot here. Another source confirmed that producers behind Man of Steel have been looking at Alberta, but said nothing has been confirmed.

"I would expect there will be an announcement in the next 60 days about a significant picture, a blockbuster to be shot in Alberta," says Blackett, "There might be one that is a $200 million, but it's probably more like a $35-million Alberta spend. The details are fairly intricate right now. That's a big-budget movie for us. The success of Inception and all the good comments made by the crew and actors and director go a long way. That is a movie that made a lot of money."

With principle photography reportedly commencing August 22nd in Vancouver, running til April, next year, the Superman reboot is scheduled to hit the big-screen December, 2012. What do you think?

@AlexDeLarge: Remember that this is casting in the 28 to 32 yr old age range for Clark. Go back to the original Deadline Article on the casting for this.

If Joe Manganiello (34) is rumored to be the front runner right now as Superman i dont think that Ryan McPartlin is that far of the picture.

Casting a 28-32 year old range doesn't mean they are sticking to actors who fall in that exact calendar range. They just want someone who LOOKS like they could be 28-32

We actually have a decent skyline here and the river valley makes for killer photos. We also have a ton of farmland outside the city too so i could see them doing some smallville shots here. plus if anyone's seen our winters we could easily double as location for the fortress of solitude too...lol...we had so much snow in the past month that the piles from shovelling the driveway was about 8 feet high. Haha

You guys sure about Boston? They used Chicago for Gotham City and Metropolis is suppose to be bigger then Gotham. Chicago is bigger or larger then Boston. Maybe they can combine several big cities for Metropolis?

I though originally they said city of Vancouver, but if its in the province of Alberta, then it's all good too.

Not sure who I'd want as Supes though.

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY

Metropolis was based on Toronto, so if anywhere, it could be filmed there.

They did film parts of Superman II in Calgary, so why not again? That'd be awesome. I'd miss work for that.

@WELLING LOVERS - Get over it! Welling carries far too much baggage. To cast him in a Superman movie will mean the rest of Smallville will have to tag along, it's the only way the general public audience will accept it. And that means watered down or even completely pathetic versions of some of DC's best characters! If you want the DC movie universe to be destroyed before it even gets going then go ahead and keep your head in the clouds and back Welling. If you have a shred of sense you will leave that horse, no matter how much you'd like to back it.

I'm batting for Matt Cohen for Superman!

There's some facts that we as cbmfans most to accept, i'm taking about lead role in a Superman Movie of course:
1. The superman actor need to have a determinate height, 6'1 or plus.
2. Welling won't be Superman nor Routh (sadly for me)even if they got the super uniform melted to his bodies, period, Get over it, of course we can cry for that but thats not going to change nothing.
3. D.C. people thinks they got the lead of the superman movieverse but Warner people are who got the last fricking word, so we are really f>>>ck up.
4. we need to praise that the Nolan-Snyder duo to the right thing with our beloved character and give us a helluva good movie at least.
there are more facts but for now there are the most important. Rest in peace people.

This could be a bit of a homage as parts of Superman 1 and 3 were filmed in Calgary, my hometown. I sure hope they film here, I'll definitely try and get some work on set.

That's my backyard and my bet is the Kent farm is shot here but who knows - hell it might not even be the Superman movies as speculated.
