Just last week it was revealed that Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later director) would possibly be directing remake of The Crow. But now, it has been reported that F. Javier Gutiérrez would be taking that responsibility.
Fango has learned that another Spanish filmmaker is actually in line to helm the reboot from Relativity Media. The other director “in talks” to put THE CROW into flight again is F. Javier Gutiérrez (pictured), director of the sci-fi serial-killer thriller BEFORE THE FALL (a.k.a. TRES DÍAS), which IFC released here. A number of directors have been attached to the new adaptation of J. O’Barr’s comic, including BLADE’s Stephen Norrington, but progress on the production has been slow. If Gutiérrez takes the CROW plunge, that’s just one of several projects the Spaniard is currently juggling.
But at the moment, I would only take this as a rumor as nothing quite official has been said just yet. Nonetheless, development for this film has not been very good as of late. And it still seems Mark Wahlberg has been reported that he was offered the lead role. Personally, I would not like to see this remake get made as it would most likely butcher the original. What do you guys think?
