By all accounts, The Flash is a pretty good movie. Is it one of the "greatest superhero movies of all time," as many at Warner Bros. Discovery have been proclaiming it? Based on the reviews, it sounds like they might have been overselling it just a little - but it's difficult to blame them for trying to put as positive a spin on the film as possible under the circumstances.
Star Ezra Miller's behaviour has obviously led to a lot of negative press, with many wondering why the studio hasn't severed ties with the troubled actor. Miller did release a statement apologizing for their actions and promising to get the help they need, but for many, their alleged crimes - which include child endangerment - are simply too despicable to forgive.
During an interview with CBC, production designer Paul Austerberry praised Miller's committed performance, and said he believes "people will forget" about their behaviour once they see the movie.
We're not so sure about that - but it is true that general audiences may not know enough about the situation to be dissuaded from seeing the movie.
If The Flash is as big a hit as WBD and DC Studios are hoping, you can expect Miller to stick around as the Fastest Man Alive in the DCU.
What do you guys think? Would you be okay with Miller staying on as The Flash going forward? You can take another look at the new trailer below.
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, an a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
The Flash will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
