If any more evidence was needed that Warner Bros. Discovery and new DC Studios co-heads Peter Safran and James Gunn are extremely confident in The Flash, it's just been announced that the movie will have its world premiere almost two months before it hits theaters.
According to Variety, The Scarlet Speedster's first solo feature will debut at this year's CinemaCon, which will take place in Las Vegas from April 24 through April 27 (The Flash is expected to screen in the late afternoon on April 25).
The studio has been throwing its full support behind the film (Gunn recently referred to it as "one of the best superhero movies" he'd ever seen) in the wake of star Ezra Miller's controversial (some would say unforgivable) behaviour and brushes with the law last year.
The recently released trailer went over very well (for the most part), and the fact that WBD is screening the film so early would certainly indicate that the positive internal reception isn't just spin.
"Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash features Barry Allen traveling back in time in order to change events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to help. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian…albeit not the one he’s looking for.
Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The Flash is produced by Barbara Muschietti and Michael Disco, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson, an a screen story by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Joby Harold, based on characters from DC. Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Double Dream/a Disco Factory production of an Andy Muschietti film.
The Flash will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures and is set to open in theaters in North America on June 16, 2023 and internationally beginning 14 June 2023.
