The Flash has undergone massive changes over the past year, particularly after DC Studios was formed. Original plans called for the DC Comics adaptation to set the stage for a Crisis on Infinite Earths movie, but the movie now seems more standalone in nature, with it likely laying the groundwork for the new DCU and writing problematic actor Ezra Miller out of the franchise.
Last month, YouTuber Grace Randolph claimed that Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Sasha Calle, and Michael Keaton had all been removed from The Flash's closing moments.
She followed up by hinting the Scarlet Speedster would instead race off into the Multiverse, meeting "a character from a long time ago in the DC world." The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez confirmed these comments, and The Weekly Planet's Nick Mason and James Clement just dropped a scoop claiming to reveal their identity.
The scene was reportedly filmed during reshoots, with the post-credits scene showing "Ezra [Miller's] Flash [approaching] Bruce from behind [but] when he turns around it's Clooney, not [Michael] Keaton."
Leaving the Fastest Man Alive stranded in the Multiverse or as a hero who explores other realities - such as the one Clooney's Caped Crusader calls home - would be a clever way to take the character off the table. DC Studios could then introduce a new Flash, while the door would be open to Miller possibly returning in a future Multiversal adventure.
A cameo like this would definitely generate buzz, though we're sure not everyone will be happy about The Flash being left in Batman & Robin's widely derided reality!
Gunn was actually asked about rumours Clooney will play the DCU's new Batman last month and responded, "Absolutely not." That doesn't mean he won't be in The Flash, of course! With a CinemaCon screening taking place this April, it may not be long before we get confirmation either way.
The Flash is set to race into theaters on June 16.
