NEW GIRL Actress Hannah Simone To Play The Lead In ABC's GREATEST AMERICAN HERO Reboot

Believe it or not, New Girl actress Hannah Simone will soon be walking on air as the Greatest American Hero in ABC's upcoming reboot of the short-lived '80s comedy series. Find out more after the jump...

We recently found out that the Greatest American Hero remake we've been hearing about for years had finally found a home at ABC as a half-hour, single camera comedy series, and now THR reports that the show has found its lead.

British-born Canadian actress/model Hannah Simone (New Girl, Kicking and Screaming) will star as Meera, a "30-year-old woman from Cleveland, whose talents include drinking tequila, singing karaoke and not much else. All that changes when some aliens entrust her with a super suit protect the planet."

The project is being developed by Fresh of The Boat team Nahnatchka Kahn and Rachna Fruchbom, and will be a re-imagining of a short-lived 1980s comedy drama series starring William Katt that has since found something of a cult following.

“Believe it or not, I’m walking on air, I never thought I could feel so free...”

Now it’s going to be stuck in my head all evening. Whatever... I’m down for a reboot.

Gonna be a comedy version of Supergirl. Hope they at least bring this back.

@BlackBeltJones - Wouldn't take much for it to be better than Supergirl. That show is getting downright irritating.

I used to watch New Girl from time to time.

She would be the best part at times

@BlackBeltJones - While she was fantastic, I have to disagree with you sir...

Winny the Bish was the absolute stand-out of this show for me...

One of my all-time favorite TV characters...

@Talontd - Coach was the best

@Beetleborg - Coach was a JOKE when he was first on the show. Just another angry black man on TV yelling all the damn time, a walking stereotype.....at least until he came back in the later seasons and was fleshed out more. I almost stopped watching the show, because his character was borderline offensive. Then....the brought on Bishop who of course was a basketball player even though he is around 5'8"...dafuq? (yes, i know there have been shorter NBA players, but still). I don't know what was going on in that writers room (maybe no POC?), but that was 2 strikes for me...

Luckily, they quickly course corrected Bishops character for the better. I laugh at damn near everything that comes out of his mouth...but to each there own...

@Talontd - I disagree completely. Coach was never an angry, yelling Black man. He was boisterous from being a coach. Literally his name is Coach. Winston was a 5'8 talented basketball player that played over seas basketball, that's his backstory gave him a reason for being away. It's no secret basketball is the most popular sport among Black Americans. They didn't make either a stereotype, Winston had way more to him from the start than just being a basketball player

@CaptCoulson - If it weren’t for the Writers’ Strike of ‘07, we wouldn’t be in the lengthy creative drought we’re in.

@MitcHendricks - I used to love this show, but this is getting ridiculous already. I would be fine with a NEW superhero show featuring a new character that is this actress, but The Greatest American Hero is Ralph Hinkley, a school teacher who wants to help his students and do good. Students who could give a s@it about learning until Ralph becomes a hero and puts his foot down. It's not this! Cast a black actor as Ralph but keep the same story and tone (and leave out all the SJW agenda crap!). Let Ralph just happen to be black without making it his defining trait! And cast Bruce Campbell as his FBI friend guiding him. Oh, I get it, The Greatest American Hero is a Muslum Woman now because men are evil. Many people are sick of being preached to. Unless the writing happens to be stellar and they don't push a paper thin agenda, this will not make a full season.
