Brian Kirk No Longer On List Of Directors For THOR 2; Patty Jenkins Now In Talks

So far, most of the fans are interested to see Patty Jenkins' take on THOR universe and characters. While there are still those who think someone else should get that job, I think we can say it was the same situation when director Kenneth Branagh was chosen for the first film. And that worked out great. For those who wanted to Brian Kirk directing the upcoming sequel, bad news...According to Variety, Kirk is no longer on the list, and they confirm that Jenkins is in early talks. More below:

"Patty Jenkins is in early talks to helm Marvel Studios and Disney's "Thor 2."

Brian Kirk, whose credits include HBO's "Game of Thrones," had been the front runner for "Thor 2" but ultimately ended up moving on to other projects.

A number of other helmers have been considered for the "Thor" sequel, including Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods"), James McTeigue ("Ninja Assassin"), Noam Murro ("300: Battle of Artemesia") and Breck Eisner ("The Crazies")."

Jenkins is best known for directing the critically acclaimed film Monster starring Charlize Theron. Recently she directed a two-hour pilot episode of AMC's The Killing, for which she received an Emmy nomination (Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series).

Don Payne is writing the film, with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston confirmed to return as the God of Thunder and Loki. THOR sequel is set for July 26, 2013 release!

I want James McTeigue. The guy did a great job with V for Vendetta. Helped with the Matrix trilogy, and did Ninja Assassin.

Wow really!! He seemed perfect for the directors chair. I'm guessing he actually wanted to make an epic movie and Marvel wanted to cut the budget AGAIN!!!

Don't like any of these choices.

They need to pay Branagh!!! Any limitations of the first film were due to the script and the fake New Mexico small town setting. Everything in Asgard was EPIC!!!

I think Marvel is trying too hard now to be cheap and find some director that isn't known for comic stuff. Branagh was a surprising choice but you cant always get away with that (see Martin Campbell).

@CapFan79 I don't think it's a matter of money for Branagh. I think like Favreau Marvel probably got involved too much to their liking and they didn't have enough control.

NO to McTeigue. We don't need all the slow mo stylized crappy Matrix gay innuendo Wachowski inspired stuff he brings to his films.

Yeah, the first Matrix was good, but all the otheres were crap. V was medicore and mostly boring.

Mel Gibson for director!

Clearly neither of you have seen Kirk's work on Dexter, Game of Thrones and Luther. But you guys are right, a woman who directed a movie about an ex-prostitute killing six men just screams THOR far more than a director who at least had some experience with action. For all we know she'll do a great job, but I happen to think Kirk was far better suited to the movie.

Good point. I'll just put my faith in a woman who has directed ONE good movie and a couple episodes of Arrested Development and Entourage. I'm sorry, but the fact she directed a great movie like Monster does not excuse the fact that Kirk's credits are far more impressive. His one episode of Dexter and two episodes of Luther (in which he did a superb job of directing Idris Elba) were more than enough on their own to make me think he would have knocked THOR 2 right out of the park. Now, I never would have thought the bloke who helmed Elf would come up with a kick ass movie like Iron Man I confess, so I'm sure if she does get the job we have very little to worry about. However, I've not seen anywhere enough from her to have the blind faith you do.

Oh, and your comments about Kirk not directing "action" shows that you have in fact seen [frick] all of his work. Not only are you CBM's biggest shit talker, but you also happen to be full of it. (no surprise there)

Intruder: Or it could be that your a brainless little cretin who'd like to be an editor, but can barely string two words together in order to write an article. And for such a brainy person, it's amazing how many of your comments get reported...you know, the ones which show how stupid and immature you really are. And regardless of the fact I, "have no life and spend every waking moment looking at what others post on other sites" I still make £900 (that's nearly $1400) a month for simply spending a few hours of my day doing just that, something I'll be proud to have on my resume when I complete my English Degree in three years time.

Heh.

I don't wanna be sexist or anything, but seriously, Thor's meant to be a real manly movie.
Monster sounds like something feminist, the abused woman revenge over men, I have nothing against that, I'm sure it's a great movie, but I don't think her values have anything to do with a Thor movie. My guess is that would be something like Ang Lee's Hulk.
I hope James McTeigue gets it, guy's great and could do great with Thor.

quote from Patty Jenkins.
"I feel very educated in visuals. I just don't feel interested in them. There are people like David Fincher who just paint magic with visuals. I don't have a zing at it, you know? I come from a totally emotional place."
hope shes changed her style since this quote or you could get a shitty looking cbm.
