Chris Hemsworth Talks Thor Character And Setting!

The Thor actor briefly talks about his characters progression throughout the movie and reveals how much of the action will be spread over Earth and Asgard...

"There's a big transition from, you know, the cocky, brash, young warrior to him learning some humility — and with and without his powers he goes through that journey," Hemsworth told MTV News when asked about how his character develops through the movie.

As for whether we'll see more of Asgard or Earth, the actor remained pretty tight-lipped but did hint that, "It's pretty evenly spread, I think!"

I think self-concisely most comic book fans know caps prob gonna suck, I mean look at all the variables, Johnson directing, uso shows,3 cap outfits, invaders introduction, and howling commandos. There prob some more two

@dick: Boy are you wrong. I'd say most comic fans are pretty excited for Cap, so I'm not sure where you pulled that little conclusion from.

Johnston - perfectly suited for this. Raiders and Rocketeer? Yes please.

USO shows: a brilliantly logical and period realistic reason why he'd wear the flag.

Invaders - are you high? What's not to like about the Invaders being introduced? Are you actually a comic fan at all I wonder? Hmm.

Howling Commandos - see above.

There is absolutely no reason at this stage why anyone would think Cap will suck unless you're a miserable git who loves to think the worst about everything.

Everything I've heard so far is overwhelmingly positive.

Doesn't mean it will definitely be good of course, no more than it means it will definitely suck.

I choose to be positive until and unless the actual movie footage or something else gives me a good reason to doubt - and so far nothing has.

Thanks guys! :) After seeing that not so brilliant concept art of Kilowog, I'm now 100% sure that Thor will be the better movie! Green Lantern will be good, but I've not see enough of it to make me think it'll be better.

Oh, and nicely said KeithM!

Poolsonx - 8/10/2010, 5:00 AM
I'm with @KeithM on Cap. I'm excited for both films and I think Cap will be great.

@Dick, way to backpedal. Next time don't speak for the rest of us... "I think self-concisely most comic book fans know caps prob gonna suck" BZZZZZZT. Wrong.

Thor is going to be the most amazing Marvel movie yet. Avengers could possibly top it if I get an epic fight scene with Thor vs. Hulk. I couldn't possibly have more of a man-crush on Chris Hemsworth because of this movie.
Poolsonx

Oh and @Dick it's subconsciously not self-concisely.

CorndogBurglar - 8/10/2010, 5:23 AM
@ dick

i have to agree with these other guys. you were kind of putting words in people's mouths. I, for one, don't have any reason to think Cap will suck. I do think it has the most potential for failure, mostly because I don't think the general audience will be as into it. BUT Marvel has given me no reason to doubt them. So no, "self-concisely" (whatever that means) I don't think it will suck.
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 8/10/2010, 6:30 AM
Ehhhh... Cap probably does have the highest probability of being sub-par, just because it does have so many moving parts, but I don't think it will be. I think Marvel knows what's riding on it and will make sure a good job is done. I think they hired Johnston for a reason, despite his hit and miss background.

With regard to this article, I actually wish more of the action would be in Asgard, and I REALLY hope the depowered part doesn't eat up to much of the movie. That was one of Spider-man 2's few flaws.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 8/10/2010, 7:26 AM
Mass: You're right about the depowered part but remember, Thor depowered, will still have the badass disposition of Thor. Peter Parker is not very interesting at all if there is no Spider Man to complicate his life.
Mrmo416
Mrmo416 - 8/10/2010, 7:35 AM
I agree with the group on this one. Thor could still be a huge flop (despite how awesome the trailer looked), but I think Cap has the most potential to fail.

That being said, I think it has the potential to really surprise audiences and critics if its done well. non-marvel fans might think Cap is cheesy or irrelevant to today's world (like my friends have said about Superman) simply because he's not a gritty, dark anti-hero like we're used to seeing in movies. But that's kind of the point of the character. They're taking a guy with traditional ideals from the past and bringing him into the present day and seeing how he'd fit in and inspire the team. That kind of story could (potentially) be much more interesting than Iron Man, Thor or Hulk.

...your thoughts?
KeithM
KeithM - 8/10/2010, 8:01 AM
@Mrmo416: "...your thoughts?"

I think people are getting sick to the back teeth of "dark anti-hero characters" who are only 'dark' for the sake of it. If they have a compelling reason to be 'dark' (Batman, Punisher, Moon Knight, etc.) then that's fine, but making Superman, Cap or similar heroes dark who it just doesn't suit not only devalues them, but it's trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and goes against what makes them 'work' in the first place.

I think it would be nice to see some proper old school heroism back in fashion.

That's not to say we should get rid of the new 'realism' style at all - I think the more grounded in reality any fantasy is, it's for the better (even LotR has a 'realness' to it that elevates it beyond simple cartoon fantasy, and that's the type of thing I mean).

Heroic and camp won't wash these days, I agree. Heroic and 'realistic' (in the above context, i.e. heroics and fantasy in a morally shades of grey, messy, realistic-ish world) is cool.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/10/2010, 8:11 AM
@ keith

i agree with everything you said. There are characters that just shouldn't be protrayed as "dark". and Cap might be the best example of that. However, a dark STORY is a completely different thing. This is WWII we're talking about here, and Red Skull is one of the most purely evil comic villains ever created. I almost expect the movie to be dark in some parts. :)
FoxForce5
FoxForce5 - 8/10/2010, 9:27 AM
As I said earlier, I do have very high hopes for Cap! If it comes off right, it might have a lot in common with last year's, "Inglorius Bastards" with the alternitive re-imagining of WWII. All-be-it, without Cap scalping anybody. And, true, there's a lot that could go wrong with it but here's hoping it all works out well! As for how it's looking so far, everytime I see or hear Evans, I think he's going to do Steve Rodgers justice and while Joe Johnson may be hit or miss, "The Rocketeer" is still one of my favorate CBMs and let's face it, "Jarassic Park 3" was not great it was okay and was still a whole lot better than the crap that was, "JP2" and Speilberg directed that so who's to say?
MassExecutions
MassExecutions - 8/10/2010, 9:56 AM
Hawksblueyes - Good point.

FoxForce5 - I agree, but JP3 was waaaayyyyyy worse than JP2.
FoxForce5
FoxForce5 - 8/10/2010, 11:22 AM
@ Mass: I guess that's just a matter of opinion, I for one find JP2 to be Spielberg's worst film ever and really unwatchable where as I felt that at least JP3 was an okay follow up to the 1st one in tone & subject anyways. But again, just opinion :-)
