Marvel's International Vice President, Nigel Cook, took to a convention in Italy, dubbed the “Professional Cinema Days in Sorrento,” to present the first bit of (raw) footage from next year's much-anticipated Thor: The Dark World film. And roughly-translated descriptions, courtesy of @Thor2Fans and @vingadoresdepre via Lavik Web Magazine, ScreenWEEK and Primissima, have surfaced dishing out a few spoilers for the Alan Taylor-directed Marvel sequel. Check them out!

“In the preview, a voice-over is heard with the oath of the God of Thunder as the new supreme ruler. We see a clash between Thor and the enemy army, in a world that is neither Asgard let alone the Earth. We see Chris Hemsworth wielding his hammer and Tom Hiddleston as Loki first wounded without a helmet, with long, loose hair and then imprisoned; his anger increasingly desperate and irrational. Then there's a scene later in which he is free again, but still furious.

Against the backdrop of a forest, in the middle of a clearing, among the dust, we in fact face off anthropomorphic creatures, but also a big "gorilla" krosan tusker: a rather alien fauna varies so, although not extreme in size (there are also some envoys/ambassadors of a people mysterious, with oval face and black eyes, elongated and sunken)

The rest of the images show glimpses of Asgard, with Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Natalie Portman in clothes that seem more like a princess; an Asgardian princess. In between, there are images of an epic battle on horseback, who seems to have left an epic cloak-and-dagger. The threat to the Asgardians is certainly a new alien race pale (now identified as the dark elves).

A black spaceship shaped irregularly looks like a serious threat to Asgard. More sequences show Natalie Portman then alongside Thor lying on the ground, probably overwhelmed in a clash.”

After the clips were shown, Nigel Cook reassured the audience that Thor: The Dark World begins and ends on Earth. And he added that the sets built for the sequel were the largest ever built for a Marvel Studios movie. Cook apparently also expressed concern that the film may not receive the same attention as Marvel's first outing next year, Iron Man 3, which the executive says takes place a year after the events of Marvel's The Avengers. What do you think?

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo & Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

In addition to “Thor: The Dark World”, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on more iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel (title TBA) on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

To be honest, I didn't really like Thor all that much. It was good, not great. Here's to hoping that Thor 2 will be better.

@BrotherStarkofMABMindz There's a bunch of other realms that feature in the movie. Midgard is just the first and last that you'll see:))

@DrHorrible I agree. If it weren't for the fact that the film is part of a much bigger universe, MCU, I would have never seen the film.

nobody needs to "reassure" me that the movie takes place on earth, Asgard and the realms is a-ok with me! You could reassure me by getting rid of Portman though

I understand Thor may have its flaws and may not technically be the best Marvel Studios movie, but it's my favorite superhero film ever. Whenever Selvig was looking through the children's book on Asgard, it really concieved the notion of fantasy becoming reality. To him, they're just children's books. To us, they're comic books. I also think the first Thor had a much better score than any of the others. I respect everyone else's opinion as well, though.

"oath of the God of Thunder as the new supreme ruler"

What does that mean? Hope they don't make Thor king. With the Odin-force everything changes. And I really don't like that part with the spaceship. Imho Thor is at his best in a fantasy environment, not a sci-fi environment. Hoping this will be great though.

A space ship..... interesting.
Maybe it's a stretch, but would Beta Ray Bill be somewhere in there?

@JayOh: That's your opinion. I thought it was the perfect way to introduce Thor to mainstream audiences and the story was nearly straight out of the Thor. It had its flaws but definitely enjoyable. The next one is sounding so far to be something really special.

@Nick56: Loki has almost always had a constant presence in the Thor mythos.

Can't wait to see Loki's new look!

Anticipation is rising! We're probably gonna have to wait a while for a trailer....

Liked the first Thor alot. I was very happy with how they pulled off the out of this world element very smoothly. I was worried about that, and they did a great job. Was it the best movie ever? No...but it sure as hell held its own, and was very entertaining. I enjoyed it very much, thank you.

I think it WILL receive the same attention as Iron Man 3. After The Avengers, ALL of these characters are on everyone's radar. Loki and Thor have a huge fan following because of the movies. I think the first Thor had the potential to do much better if he had more exposure prior to it's release (it still did well though)

The Avengers did for Thor, Cap and Hulk what the first Iron Man did for Tony Stark.

Thor 2 will perform great. Do not underestimate it.

@JayOh: Again, your opinion... If you don't like that other people besides you actually appreciated it, go whine about it somewhere that is not a Thor article.

@JayOh As a HUGE Thor comics and norse mythology fan it took me a while to admit to myself that the first movie wasn't that great. I liked a lot of things about it, don't get me wrong. The good stuff ranged from the Asgard scenes, to amazing portrayals of Odin, Heimdall, and Loki. The cast choices were all awesome. But the lines and story weren't all that great. I really wish they hadn't spent so much time on Earth. I actually would have rather them taken out Jane Foster. I didn't feel she was needed. I would have rather Sif become Thor's first love interest, if there was to be a love interest at all. The relationship felt forced, and I felt any acting that went down on Earth was lackluster.

@JayOh,

you know, saying "shit movie' just makes you sound like a douche. If you actually present valid reason why you personally disliked the movie, people might actually hear you out.

Food for thought.

A small part of me really hopes they keep photos of Loki a secret until the first trailer or something, just to drive the fans on Tumblr psycho, who are already freaking out/complaining about there not being set photos.

That's mean, I know... But then the other part of me doesn't want to wait and really wants to see a new(er) costume on him.

Oh, and I feel like I'm the only one who really wants to see photos of Tyr. x:

I think marvel will give this movie plenty of exposure. It's coming out early November instead of late summer so it shouldn't be over shadowed by iron man 3 at all. not only that, it probably won't have much competition releasing in November.
bambistark
bambistark - 12/6/2012, 11:58 AM
@LFANCH Catching Fire (the next Hunger Games movie) is out the weekend after. That will be competition and probably destroy box office numbers for Thor 2 if not advertised well.
