Idris Elba Talks THOR Heimdall Controversy And Ghost Rider 2!

The actor once again defends Marvel Studios' decision to cast him as Heimdall in THOR and reveals some more details about his role in Ghost Rider 2 and working with Nic Cage...

In an interview with Leslie Gornstein of the Los Angeles Times Sunday Magazine, the actor once again shared his thoughts on the reaction by some to him being cast as Norse God, Heimdall, as well as his character and experiences while working on upcoming movie, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

On The Racist Reaction To Him Being Cast As Heimdall:

"Purist comic-book fans are one thing; out-and-out racism is another. Of course, the more I speak on this topic, the more I fuel it. But, look, if people have a problem with me playing the character, just don’t go see the movie, you know?"

On The "Alcoholic Monk" He Plays In Ghost Rider 2:

"That’s a pretty good description of him...except there are no martial arts. There is some fighting, but in the end he resorts to a gun — sorry. He’s also French. That’s the other part of the description you missed. I kind of adopted an Algerian French accent for that role and had a great time doing it. I liked playing that part."

On What It Was Like Working Alongside Actor Nic Cage:

"Nic is a very generous actor. When you have an actor of that size and weight, who has been around that long, and you have an ensemble cast, he doesn’t have to do all the things he does to make the cast comfortable. He’ll feed you lines himself again and again and again. He’s very polite to the crew, talks to everyone, doesn’t mind stepping up to his own mark to line up a shot [instead of using a stand-in]. That is generous."

With an all star cast which includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Thor is out now in the UK and will be released shortly after in the US on May 6, later this year!

Asgardians are aliens in the movie not actually Norse myth. in the movie Asgardians are a advance alien race they was worship as Gods cause of the powers they had.

I don't see why people are causing such a huge fuss about this when they're fine with Samuel L. Jackson being Nick Fury??
& he played a better Heimdall then Jackson does Nick Fury
if a change needs to be made then it's Jackson, not Elba

@angelusmortis that's because ultimate nick fury is black and in fact based off samuel l. jackson. they went with that look instead of the old school david hasselhoff nick fury. haha

I think that if they ever make a Black Panther movie they should cast Cloris Leachman as T'Challa. She is a fine actor with years of credentials. If you do not agree with me you are ageist, sexist AND racist. Nuff Said.

Nick Fury black? Okay, he's an American soldier so that's okay. Kingpin black? Sure, an American crime boss, that's believable. Catwoman black? That's still okay. But messing with Scandinavian myths? And then you call anyone who disagrees with you a racist. Snorri Sturluson never had this in mind. I'm still going to see the movie but why are you calling people racists for disagreeing with that casting decision?

Heimdell is called "the whitest" of all asgardians... and who cares.
the only reason this was announced was so no one would be distracted by it when the film comes out.
I love Heimdell and I'm glad he is in the film.

@gerryvee you didn't get it. Heimdall being black is one of Loki's mischiefs.

Oxion

So Heimdell is the "White God".....does this mean that the others aren't white? I mean I didn't know one white guy could be "whiter" than another. And I have yet to find anywhere on the the net or in books that the "white" is a reference to his skin color. and there is a difference between MARVELS THOR and the norse gods. Marvel can do watever the [frick] they want with their character, who are aliens btw. and that whole faithfull to the comic book crap...get over yourself. Lex Luther was black, green goblin had on an armored suit, bullseye wore a leather jacket and they kill cyclops, jean and professor x. Comics are all about change, if they stayed the same, they would get boring. If you have such an issue,GET OUT UR MOMS BASEMENT AND LETS SEE YOUR THOR MOVIE!!!!
