THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Blu-ray Deleted Scenes Revealed But There's No Sign Of The Grandmaster And Eitri

Marvel Studios has revealed the release date and bonus features for the Thor: Love and Thunder Blu-ray, but there's sadly no signs of those scenes with Gorr the God Butcher, The Grandmaster, and Eitri...

Marvel Studios has announced that Thor: Love and Thunder arrives on Digital on September 8 before its release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 27. With the news comes a full list of special features and deleted scenes, and in the case of the latter, you might want to brace yourselves for a minor disappointment.

Christian Bale has confirmed that he worked with Jeff Goldblum (The Grandmaster) and Peter Dinklage (Eitri) on scenes that didn't make the final cut, though director Taika Waititi would later say he hopes they're never released. Unfortunately, it appears he got his way, as there's nothing here that suggests we'll see Gorr the God Butcher interacting with those characters.

On the plus side, we are getting more Zeus and additional scenes with the Guardians of the Galaxy. We'd have liked to see more of Gorr, but no such luck here.

The special features are otherwise what we've come to expect from these Blu-ray releases, though an Audio Commentary from Waititi is sure to result in lots of fun new facts about Thor: Love and Thunder being revealed.

Check out a full list of what to expect below:

Bonus Features

  • Gag Reel – Take a look at some of the fun outtakes on set with the cast and crew of Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Audio Commentary – Watch the film with audio commentary by director/writer Taika Waititi.

Featurettes

  • Hammer-worthy: Thor and The Mighty Thor – Trace Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman's journeys to becoming Thor and The Mighty Thor, respectively. Watch as the costars speak about the preparation behind embodying their legendary roles and describe how they combine their unstoppable forces.
  • Shaping a Villain – This featurette introduces Love and Thunder’s primary antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher. Shining a light on the man who brings the character to life, this piece highlights his recruitment and process. Then fellow cast and crew reveal personal anecdotes.
  • Another Classic Taika Adventure – This piece looks back on Taika Waititi’s journey taking over the Thor franchise and reinventing the God of Thunder. Revisit the moment Taika was announced as the new custodian of Thor and follow Taika through the production of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Deleted Scenes

  • Looking for Zeus – Thor, Valkyrie and Korg run into a few characters while seeking an audience with Zeus.
  • Wasting Time – Star-Lord and Mantis convince Thor to help their cause.
  • A Safe Vacation – A nonchalant Thor chats with a panicked Star-Lord and Mantis in the middle of chaos. An explosion thrusts Korg into the scene.
  • Fighting For You – Zeus gifts Thor a special tool after overhearing a heartfelt conversation.

Wish the whole movie was deleted scenes🙆

Hey waititi. So directors cuts suck but deleted scenes are great?

@Origame - Nah Taika also said that if a scene needs to be deleted, then it is "not good enough to be in the movie." It is consistent enough.

@JFerguson - ...so then he should be against a movie advertising itself with deleted scenes. Do you not see the contradiction here?

@Origame - Deleted scenes are a pretty common inclusion when movies are released on home media, and have been since DVDs were a thing.

They're there to give fans an extra look behind the curtain at some ideas that were considered for the movie, but the director choosing not to include them in the final cut doesn't make their release among other bonus features some kind of contradictory or hypocritically move.

@AC1 - *hypocritical

@AC1 - but 9 times out of 10 the director's cut is planned as a bonus for the DVD release. And even then waititi still hates it. He hates it because the SCENES were deleted for a reason.

@Origame - Not at all, Director's Cuts are actually a very rare occurrence. Also it's worth pointing out - a Director's Cut is the Director's preferred version of the movie. Seeing as Taika IS the Director that means what he put out already WAS the Director's Cut.

Now, if you're talking about an Extended Cut then I get where you're coming from (I think the movie was too short too) but that's still not something Taika would get to decide - that's down to Kevin Feige, the other executives at Marvel Studios, and probably Disney too. Marvel have never put out an Extended Cut of any of their movies (the Spider-Man movies don't really count because Sony makes the decisions on them) so it's unlikely they'll start now.

And beyond that, it could be the case that Marvel wanted the movie to be longer but Disney stepped in and told them to make it shorter. However, there's really no way of knowing who made those decisions or why, the only thing we can assume with some confidence is that Taika isn't the guy making those decisions.

@AC1 - 1) they're much more common than you give them credit for. Sometimes called unrated cuts, sometimes special editions, sometimes just saying it has an alternate ending. But the result is the same, the movie the director originally envisioned before being altered for some reason.

2) it doesn't matter what taika decides. It's what he says is right. He says these are always bs.

3) exactly with this last point. That's why what waititi said about directors cuts is bs. He may be happy with the cuts of his movie that are released theatrically, but not all of them are. Ridley Scott and Zack Snyder are two perfect examples of this.

@JFerguson - There was a lot of scenes in the final cut that wasn't good enough to be in the movie.

That Gorr pic (below) is the first time I felt like I've seen Gorr since this shit started.

Movie felt like the Deadpool 2 of movie sequels. Reuses a lot of the same jokes as its predecessor (hammer pulled you off, etc.) which come off as rehashed and less funny the second time around. Also brings back cast members who don't work as good the second time around bc they lack a sufficient arc (Dopinder and Valkyrie) or are just comedy relief for the main character to banter with (Colossus and Korg)

Gorr likely killed them both, which they don't want people to have in their minds in case they bring them back. Like one of those things you can't unsee. I think we'd all still like to have though.

I guess I’ll watch the movie but I really don’t think I’m going to like it after hearing everyone’s comments.

I thought ragnarok lacked enough depth for repeat viewings so I doubt I’ll like this one.
