We know some of you still haven't had the chance to see Thor: Love and Thunder yet, but if you have - or simply don't mind major spoilers! - you'll find details on a major status quo shift for Chris Hemsworth's titular hero below.
When it was announced that Natalie Portman was set to return as Jane Foster and take up the mantle of The Mighty Thor, many fans assumed that she might end up replacing the Odinson in The MCU moving forward. The fact that Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) was the movie's villain only increased speculation that Thor would be killed off, allowing his female counterpart to take his place.
Well, those theories really couldn't have been further off the mark!
Towards the end of the film, Jane succumbs to her cancer after picking up Mjölnir one last time to help Thor defeat The God Butcher and go out fighting like a true Asgardian. The dying Gorr, meanwhile, manages to reach the being known as Infinity, who has the power to grant any wish. Thor is ultimately able to convince his enemy to change his wish, and instead of eliminating every God in the universe, Gorr chooses to resurrect the daughter he lost in the opening scene.
Gorr then asks Thor to keep her safe, and in the movie's touching final moments, we see that the Avenger has adopted the young girl as his own. "Love" appears to have the powers of a God, and wields Stormbreaker into battle alongside her "Uncle Thor."
It's an interesting new direction to take the Odinson in, for sure, and it looks like these two will come as a package deal in the MCU moving forward. We have no idea when we'll see "Love and Thunder" again, but Taika Waititi has shown interest in capping off a trilogy with a follow-up.
