Thor: Love and Thunder was very much a standalone story in terms of its connections to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Taika Waititi's Ragnarok follow-up still featured its fair share of surprises, including the reveal that the "Love" of the title referred to more than just the rekindling of romantic feelings between the titular Space Viking and Jane Foster.
Towards the end of the movie, the Odinson convinces Gorr to ask Eternity to bring his daughter back to life. The God Butcher is dying and doesn't want his child to be alone, but Thor promises to keep her safe.
In the final scene, we learn that Thor has become a surrogate father to the little girl (who now appears to have been granted the powers of Eternity), and as they charge into battle together, Korg's narration tells us that the pair would come to be known as Love and Thunder.
Love was played by Chris Hemsworth's real-life daughter India Rose, and the actor has now shared our first behind-the-scenes look at her character via Instagram.
Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in theaters.
