THOR Director Kenneth Branagh Wants To Helm Another Marvel Movie - RAGNAROK Perhaps?

Branagh may have declined to return to the director's chair for Thor: The Dark World, but while promoting Cinderella at the Berlin Film Festival he told THR that he'd be "delighted" to helm another Marvel flick sometime. Well, Thor: Ragnarok needs a director!

Kenneth Branagh stated publicly that a scheduling conflict kept him from returning to direct Thor: The Dark World, but the rumor mill cited the old "creative differences" as the real reason. It wouldn't be that surprising given the fact that both Patty Jenkins (who was originally lined up to direct the Thor sequel) and Edgar Wright dropped out of their respective Marvel projects for that very reason, and although Jon Favreau returned for Iron Man 2, his experiences working on that saw him hand the reigns over to Shane Black for the threequel.

Either way, it would seem any problems Branagh might have had with the studio have been put to bed. The Hollywood Reporter asked the Cinderella director if he'd ever be open to returning to the MCU while interviewing him at the Berlin Film Festival, and here's what he said.

"I continue to have good relationships with all my Marvel family. It’s a people game the movie game, and although these films are big articulated lorries, they still have to be driven by real people. I fondly remember good times working on Thor. So you always look to repeat that kind of thing, and if it happened again, I’d be delighted."

Could we see him return to helm Thor: Ragnarok? Maybe he'd prefer to tackle a different character this time? Of course, just because he is interested in working with Marvel again, there's nothing to say they are -- though Thor was a damn entertaining flick and made the studio a tidy profit, so I can't see why they wouldn't be. What do you guys think? Would you like to see Branagh back in the MCU? Sound off below.

Well, it would show that marvel isnt terrible to work with, which is right now what i do think considering few directors stay for more than 1/2 films

Eh...nothing impressed me about Branagh's Thor movie. At all.

It would be interesting if he came back for Ragnarok and helped bring the trilogy full-circle in a way, but this just might be the one trilogy that shouldn't be brought full-circle like that.

The Dark World was an improvement on Thor IMO, but Ragnarok NEEDS to be on a whole other level than the first two. I don't think Branagh is the answer.

He did that recent Jack Ryan film. One of the worst spy films I've ever seen. Jack didn't kill someone until 45 minutes into a film. The pacing was so slow.

He also did the De Niro Frankenstein film based on the book. I really liked that. First 2 acts were great and respected Mary's Frankenstein but the third act was very weird and different and not good.

Still haven't seen any of the Thor films.

I'd be ok with him directing but would rather maintain the art direction from TDW.

@ MARVELPSYCHO79

Didn't Marvel dump him because he wanted to do to much with the Thor sequel so they dumped him, rewrote the script, and toned it down.

I think he'd be way better suited for INHUMANS. But, I wouldn't be mad. Thor isn't bad, but not my favourite.

I think Marvel Studios needs to find a director who can handle big action sequences to take on Thor: Ragnarok.Branagh's vision for Thor was cool at that time but now it's time to turn Thor up.Thor needs to kick ass in Ragnarok and I don't think Branagh can bring the pain like the Russos did for The Winter Soldier.Ragnarok is supposed to be Phase 3's TWS.I think Marvel Studios can find another director out there that can do Ragnarok justice and take the Thor franchise to another level.

Thor was way better than The Dark World. I'd still like to see Del Toro helm Ragnarok. Dump both Yost and Kyle, and let GDT write the movie.

No!!! Keep him away from Marvel. I appreciate his interpretation of Thor, but it just fell short of being a mediocre film. While the movie was long, everything seemed to be rushed. Thor's rise to arrogance, his willingness to go on a killing rampage in Jotenheim, his romance with Jane, being humbled after one day of exile and defeating the Destroyer in less than 2 mins. He actually made it ok for Thor to go helmetless which is a big comic book no no (Ultimate Thor fans so what?). This guy makes Joss Whedon look like Scorsese.

And please,no Midgard/Earth in Ragnarok.

Do any of you know what Ragnarok is about? It does place on earth because Thor fights the MIDGARD Serpent there.

nope, nope and nope. Both Thor movies were giant snoozefests, and he's just not a good fit for this character. Branagh doesn't get it, and never will.

I never once believed Kenneth Branagh had "creative" differences with Marvel. That was all media spin to make a story out of nothing. There has been issues with other people like Patty Jenkins and Edgar Wright -but Kenneth wasn't one of them.

I do think he had perhaps the hardest job any director had early on in the MCU. Not very many superhero movies venture off Earth (except Superman) and he had to create Asgard. Incorporating Thor into the MCU was the first real big buy-in into the MCU for the audience. I think he did a pretty good job, So yeah, let Kenneth do another movie.

I don't dislike what Branagh brought to the table, and maybe now that Marvel has more resources and a template for production design/action, maybe he'd be a good fit now.

Remember, he made Thor with only Iron Man and Incredible Hulk as reference for the world he was working within. With all of the design work and staff from TDW, as well as more and better effects people, I think it's not a horrible idea at all.

Thor had some of the best performances out of any of the Marvel movies. Hiddleston killed it, Hemsworth and Portman's chemistry really worked for me, and it was suitably funny and also dramatic. The shortcomings are things that can be improved on, I think. And it would be nice to see a fence mended, if it was ever actually broken to begin with.

I'm not opposed to this.

Get [frick]ing Ridley Scott or Gore Verbinski...think they'd do an awesome Thor...doubt Ridley would do it, but Gore maybe?

I really hope Alan Taylor doesn't return. The Dark World was the weakest, blandest, paint-by-numbers Marvel movie so far.

@0megaDaGod

Totally agree.

Thor's franchise problems have been on the writing side, with some difficult to predict production problems and limitations thrown on top. I was listening to a Cracked podcast where they were talking about Feige delaying a Black Panther or female-led film like Captain Marvel or Black Widow and how Feige would say: "We just haven't cracked the formula of that script, yet", and how there are like 10 different versions trying to find the right balance and voice for a character.

The Thor movies (and Incredible Hulk, I think) are just examples of scripts they hadn't cracked yet. This is why I'm hopeful for Ant-Man. They've had a hell of a long time to figure out how they are going to deliver that movie.

Okay, 3. Where's Favreau, Leterrier, Branagh, Johnson, Black, or Taylor?? And Whedon looks like he's leaving as well after A2
