A leaked photo from the set of Thor: Love and Thunder has revealed the new costume Tessa Thompson will don as Valkyrie, and she'll clearly be heading into battle looking more badass than ever before...

We've yet to receive an official look at Thor: Love and Thunder, though a leaked promo poster did recently highlight a number of characters who will be taking centre stage in the blockbuster.

Among them was Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie, and it was clear the LGBTQ+ superhero will be getting a new costume for Taika Waititi's highly anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, we have a closer look at her updated outfit courtesy of a behind-the-scenes photo featuring the actress suited up.

It's worth noting that the actress looks to be in insanely good shape to play the new King of Asgard, and it's previously been reported that she'll find her Queen in this movie. Who that will be remains to be seen, though one popular theory online is that Valkyrie will become romantically linked to Captain Marvel.

Whether Marvel Studios would be bold enough to head in that direction in Thor: Love and Thunder and The Marvels is hard to say, but with China showing fewer Hollywood blockbusters, Disney may no longer feel the need to hold back on embracing diversity in a quest to avoid losing box office revenue.

Regardless, this new Valkyrie costume is awesome and we can't wait to see the hero in action.

Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on July 8.

Hope they'll bring back Sif too. And maybe introduce Angela and/or Enchantress. Enough Queens for Valkyrie to pick from

@Cap1 - How? She has completely different eyes and face shape. I mean the biggest giveaway is it's not even on Tessa Thompson's account!

@BritishMonkey - How? Well, because.. it's her. There is such a thing as Instagram filters. Someone has evidently screenshotted and reposted, hence not her account. Google the image or search twitter and you'll find a much better quality image that makes it clear as day it's her

@Captainhulk1 - that goes for every character Taika Waititi unfortunately had a hand in doing. And he unfortunately had a hand in many of my favorite Marvel characters, Korg, Miek, Hel, The Executioner, etc. The guy just takes characters with depth and tragedy and turns them into standard stock MCU comic reliefs.
URCOMMENTSUCKS
URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/3/2022, 1:15 PM
@Battabing - she's supposed to be MCU's Brunhilde. That's what the creators were doing. I doubt Taika Waititi and his writers were well-versed in the nuances regarding Marvel's Norse Pantheon.
Battabing
Battabing - 1/4/2022, 12:09 PM
@URCOMMENTSUCKS -
She's clearly not Brunhilde, nor was she ever meant to be. You see Brunhilde get killed by Hela. Thompson's Valkyrie is named Runa Kiarsdotter.

globaltravels

@Killuminatic - well seeing as though it comes from a random account that isn't hers, and doesn't look like her at all... I mean, it being her stunt double makes perfect sense.

How about, instead of calling us morons, you prove it IS her?

Please bring back the real MCU Valkyrie.

The characterisation of a responsible leader from Endgame was in direct contradiction of her character in Ragnarok. She has no interest in cleaning up and taking on responsibilities anymore.

I'm convinced that the only reason we saw her responsibly bringing in a shipment of booze was so that she could swipe the best stuff before anybody else got their hands on it.
And I don't think she means what we think she means when she says "I'm gonna make some big changes around here". We immediately think social and political reform for the good of equality and all the whatnots that come with it, right? But why do we assume tha? Because finally a black, gay woman is in charge? Shame on us for thinking that automatically means she gives a shit.

I'd love to see Thor come back to see a drunken Valkyrie has turned New Asgard into a place of revelry and gladiatorial sport and the economy is fvcked because she's drunk everything away.

GwenLantern

@DR3D - Congratulations on missing the point entirely.

Lori Lightfoot never spent decades drinking and partying on an alien warworld, racked with PTSD over losing her whole division to the goddess of death.
(as far as I know)

Valkyrie is a well-written individual character who does not intend on having a redemptive character arc. She's fine with who she is. You need a swift and vengeful sword? She might lend a hand if she thinks it'll be fun.

She's not Lori Lightfoot. But because she's a black, LGBTQ woman we seem to think she's some sort of spokesperson for minorities.
Her character in Endgame falls square into this assumption without once thinking that she was a strong character with a specific and individual personality of her own that doesn't fall in with whatever flat-character poster woman you might need her to be.
GwenLantern
GwenLantern - 1/3/2022, 10:30 AM
I'm gonna put it simply:

She's not Wonder Woman. She's Lobo.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 1/3/2022, 12:11 PM
@GwenLantern - well she was the character she was because of ptsd and her losing faith in Odin and Asgard because her girlfriend died. It was more so she drank her pain away rather than she was somewhere having fun.

By the way Thor talked about her, and her people, her characterization now is more inline with who she use to be
URCOMMENTSUCKS
URCOMMENTSUCKS - 1/3/2022, 1:12 PM
@MyCoolYoung - I must've fell asleep while all the things you mentioned were happening in the movie. I wonder where exactly does it show her suffering from PTSD because her girlfriend died. All I saw was an annoying garbage lady making snarky remarks and being a stock badass MCU female heroine.

MyCoolYoung - 1/3/2022, 2:20 PM
@URCOMMENTSUCKS - sounds like you didn’t watch
GwenLantern
GwenLantern - 1/3/2022, 2:58 PM
@MyCoolYoung - But she goes against the cliche of doing a 180 degree turn. She decides to have her vengeance and face her fear and fulfil her duty as a Valkyrie in the bargain. And Thor assumes she's having an Ebenezer Scrooge moment, but she's not. She puts him straight:

"I don't intend to stop drinking," she says. This is not a cliched character arc. She's a real person. She's still haunted. She's been irrevocably changed through years of self-destruction. She's happy, she's having fun.

I feel like, if this were a male character we wouldn't try to change them.
Like Han Solo. He joins the good fight again, but he doesn't stop being Han Solo. He's still a pirate.
Or Wolverine or John Constantine.
Constantine is gritty, haunted, self-destructive... and super cool. He's contended being who he is. He will be a hero, but he won't stop being himself.

Or Batman. He's still a dark, moody Bastard, no matter how old he gets. We don't need him to suddenly be a happy, responsible paragon of social virtue and progression.

Or Starlord. He's a hero now, but we don't suddenly feel the need to write him like Capain America.
4thMaster
4thMaster - 1/3/2022, 6:23 PM
@GwenLantern - I agree with you on how lame that quote is, it doesn't even work in context as she's already been de-facto King of New Asgard for about 5 years so there's no reason to think she would start ruling any differently now that she's properly the king.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 1/3/2022, 8:35 PM
@GwenLantern - from Ragnarok to endgame you had billions of people die in 10 seconds I think that alone could change the arc of anyone. There was no one in endgame not effected by the snap so why she couldn’t be? Thor already had turned into a drinking, game playing Bafoon so she probably felt the need to step up and lead all of these misplaced people on earth.

Captain america changed, iron man changed, Thor changed, Hawkeye changed. Everyone changed since their mcu starts.

Shit even Christian bale Batman gave up the mantle in his trilogy to drink and be happy overseas
