We got a first glimpse of this artwork last night, but Andy Park has now taken to Twitter to share an official version of the concept illustration that debuted along with the Thunderbolts cast reveal during Marvel Studios' D23 Expo presentation.
The team will consist of: Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).
Some fans were a little disappointed that the lineup essentially consists of the casts of Black Widow and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and a rather forgettable Ant-Man villain, but there's always a chance other character will join over the course of the film.
In related news, XtraTV shared an interview with cast members Wyatt Russell, Sebastian Stan and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who were asked if they consider the Thunderbolts to be heroes or villains. They remained tight-lipped for the most part, but Stan did suggest that the movie will ask that same question of the audience.
In the comics, the Thunderbolts were originally introduced as a new superhero team who stepped in when the Avengers were declared dead after the events of Onslaught, but it was soon revealed that they were actually the Masters of Evil in disguise. Ultimately, most members of the team reformed for real, and did their best to become a force for good.
Jake Schreier (Robot and Frank, Dave) is set to direct, with Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson penning the script.
