INVINCIBLE Showrunner Gives Ambiguous Answer When Asked About A SPIDER-MAN Crossover

Invincible showrunner Simon Racioppa certainly knows whether a crossover with Marvel's Spider-Man is in the works for the blockbuster Prime Video animated superhero program.

Will Spider-Man appear in Season 2 of Invincible? The multiverse plot of the forthcoming second season of the television series completely aligns with the events of the crossover in the comic books, sparking much speculation among Image Comics fans that Marvel's beloved wall-crawler may truly be making an appearance.

Speaking to The Hollywood Handle,  Invincible showrunner Simon Racioppa responded in an extremely evasive manner when asked about the possibility.

"I’d love to have crossovers with all, with DC, with Marvel, with all these other characters," stated Racioppa.

He continued,  "I mean… in our show you gotta have to wait and see if that’s a thing that can happen or not. I’d love that to happen, you know, is very tricky nowadays, for Marvel they sometimes license their characters to other studios. So crossing over in television is way harder than it is in comic books.

Invincible met Spider-Man and The Avengers in 2006's Marvel Team-Up #14 with Invincible #33 serving as a tie-in issue.

Series creator Robert Kirkman previously stated, "Angstrom Levy will be a new villain that comes into the series [in season 2]. And if you’ve read the comics, you’re aware of who he is and what his deal is. He’s a villain that has access to multiple dimensions, and so it’s another one of those dang multiverse things.”

Additionally, in a series of promos leading up to the release of season 2's first trailer, eagle-eyed fans spotted Invincible reading what appeared to be Marvel Team-Up #14 on his cell phone.

Prime Video will release Invincible season 2 on November 3. Four episodes will drop weekly, culminating on November 24. The second season will be split, with the remaining four episodes of season 2 premiering in 2024.

Amazon recently revealed that voice recordings for season 3 are already finished, indicating that the time between seasons would be substantially shorter in the future.

Based on the groundbreaking comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season 1, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear - that he might become his father without even knowing it.

Starring Steven Yeun, with Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Chris Diamantopoulos, Walton Goggins, Gillian Jacobs, Jason Mantzoukas, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Zachary Quinto, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Seth Rogen, and J.K. Simmons.

Joining the Season 2 cast are Sterling K. Brown, Peter Cullen, Rob Delaney, Calista Flockhart, Phil LaMarr, Luke MacFarlane, Tatiana Maslany, Scott McNairy, Jay Pharoah, Ella Purnell, Tim Robinson, Ben Schwartz, Rhea Seehorn, Lea Thompson, Paul F. Tompkins, Shantel VanSanten, and more.

The executive producers are Kirkman, Catherine Winder, David Alpert, Simon Racioppa, Margaret M. Dean, Rogen, and Evan Goldberg, and the co-executive producers are Helen Leigh and Walker.

OT :
Rewatching the 2000’s The Batman series. That was a pretty under appreciated show. There is a lot of fun to be had with it. I’m glad it had its own identity and wasn’t trying to be similar to TAS.

@LSHF - yeah. Wake me when a creator or director or whatever actually answers the question of "will this character make an appearance?"

@bkmeijer1 - Lol.

I would be embarrassed to be the one to have to ask these questions that the people obviously can't answer and the interviewers should know better.

I doubt it will actually happen, but it's not AS insane as it sounds. Basically, it breaks down like this:

1. The trailer for Invicible S2 had an Easter Egg showing the comic book crossover with Spider-Man. Probably just a cute reference, but...

2. The Sony deal, as per the arrangement circa 2009, allows Disney to make half hour Spider-Man shows in animation, but Sony has the rights to make Spider-Man in animation or live action in 44 minute+ shows.

3. Sony has a new-ish deal with Amazon to make 45 minute to hour shows with Spider-Man related properties and characters.

4. Invincible is one of the few hour long animated shows that exist.

5. Okay, but they can't just invented a brand new Spider-Man for that show. That would have to be signed off and approved by Marvel as well as Sony.

6. But Sony does have previously stamped for approval by Marvel Spider-Men in the roster, such as Spectacular Spider-Man.

7. Spectacular Spider-Man's Josh Keaton is on the cast list for Season 2.

None of that is definitive. Keaton is probably just voicing some character. The Easter Egg a cheeky nod to something that believe it or not happened once. But if it WAS going to happen, the circumstances would have to look like this.
