THE WALKING DEAD Showrunner Scott M. Gimple Addresses Daryl Dixon's Sexuality
Robert Kirkman recently revealed that the possibility of Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) being gay in the hit AMC series has been "discussed". Now, The Walking Dead showrunner Scott M. Gimple sheds some light on that and confirms that a gay character is coming to the series...
The reveal from Robert Kirkman that Daryl Dixon might in fact be gay was met by the response we've all come to expect from some fans, but equally as many pointed out that it could be an interesting direction to take the character in. Talking to TV Line recently, showrunner Scott M. Gimple said that while Daryl's sexuality won't be addressed this year, they're pleased that such speculation and interest exists. "We know all sorts of things about the characters that we haven’t revealed. [But] we’re not holding back information on Daryl’s sexuality as any sort of big reveal. The fact that there’s still a question as to what Daryl’s orientation is in Season 5 absolutely speaks to Daryl’s character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways. We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick. That’s been a very satisfying journey for all of us on the creative side to portray. [And] he’s still on that journey." He adds, "This is a character who is going to continue to grow closer to the other characters and let his guard down, and let them see just who he is, in every way." However, despite the fact that The Walking Dead won't be addressing this particular plot point in season five, there are plans in place to introduce a male gay character, but he wouldn't reveal when exactly that will be. If they're following the comic books, this will likely be Aaron or even enigmatic new character "Jesus". What do you guys think of these comments? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
