While Superman: Legacy will serve as the official beginning of the DCU in theaters, our first glimpse of that world will be when Creature Commandos launches on Max in 2024.

Very little has been revealed about the animated series, though we know the actors who lend their voices to the characters here will also play them in live-action. That's all part of DC Studios' plan to create a shared world akin to the MCU, and James Gunn has now shared a big update on the show (via Toonado.com).

Taking to Threads, the filmmaker reiterated previous reports of Creature Commandos consisting of 7 episodes and confirmed the cast has finished recording their lines. He also teased a memorable soundtrack for The Suicide Squad spin-off, something we expect to be a recurring theme throughout the new DCU.

Even many hardcore comic book fans aren't overly familiar with this group of freakish heroes, so we're intrigued to see how audiences respond to them. We also can't help but wonder what clues this series will provide when it comes to the DCU's tone and what this new reality actually looks like.

Creature Commandos stars Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Indira Varma as Bride of Frankenstein, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot and Weasel, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

The series sees Amanda Waller create a black ops team out of monstrous prisoners. Gunn wrote all of the first season's episodes.

Take a look at Gunn's comments in the Threads below.

What's the worldwide plan for these? MAX isn't close to global.

@RealTurner - We have max in my country, but not the app. And it's been now a few years and it has to be the most stupid shit ever.

@Usernametaken - The issue here in Japan is that other native services have contracted for the content, so now bringing MAX over wholesale would likely be difficult. Disney+ had the same issue, as DoCoMo was running the Disney content at the time; when first getting D+ here you still needed a DoCoMo account to get it. But if they don't have a decent worldwide rollout at the same time, for shows and movies and games, the plan isn't going to work on the global scale they are going to need.

Gunn loves team movies. Seems he knows he would fail on solo projects.

Suicide squad
Guardians
Superman legacy is looking like a team movie
This.

I think it's so easy to write comedies because all it needs is stupid.

Too much nonsense.

Mr. team up Gunn just can't help himself.

Other than Waller, which of these goofy characters will we ever see in live action?

Why can't he just focus first on Superman, Batman, Hal Jordan Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Flash. They are the most important characters in the DC stable. Until someone gets them right, all the rest of these grand plans are just too much.

Is Gunn gonna take control of the entire animated space for DC? I really hope Gunn isn't the reason why Young Justice and Harley Quinn's futures are up in the air. Why does EVERYTHING have to be connected. Leave the animated stuff alone.
