Gotham Knights arrives on The CW on March 14, and to say that there's a lot of excitement for the series...well, that might be an overstatement. From the start, fans have been left confused about everything from the title - which is exactly the same as a video game released last year - to the fact it will revolve around a character called Turner Hayes.
Despite him being surrounded by many of the teenagers who have accompanied Batman into battle, he's a newly created ward for Bruce Wayne who, in this reality (not the Arrowverse, mind you) is framed for the Dark Knight's murder.
There's nothing wrong with introducing a character who didn't debut on the page; Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series is proof of that. However, the fact that none of these young heroes will suit up is, quite frankly, perplexing, but Gotham Knights just got another major link to the Caped Crusader with the addition of Joe Chill!
The CW has confirmed Hellraiser alum Doug Bradley (who played Pinhead) will star as one of DC Comics' most infamous villains. Chill irrevocably changed Gotham when he cruelly gunned down Bruce Wayne's parents.
An official character description reveals that, after fifty years of rotting on death row, Joe Chill is scheduled to be executed. But Gotham's notorious 'Patron Saint of Bad Guys' is not about to let his secrets die with him. Could it be that he knows Bruce Wayne was Batman?
"When casting the iconic role of Joe Chill, arguably the man who created Batman, there was only one name we considered – Doug Bradley," series producers Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams said in a statement today. "We needed an actor with the kind of gravitas that would do justice to such a seminal character in DC Comics canon."
"And who better to embody the role of the classic Gotham fiend than the man whose legendary portrayal of another classic fiend – Pinhead in the Hellraiser franchise - continues to terrify generations of horror fans?"
Bradley is set to appear in the sixth episode of Gotham Knights.
The series stars Oscar Morgan as Turner Hayes, Anna Lore as Stephanie Brown, Olivia Rose Keegan as Duela Dent, Navia Robinson as Carrie Kelley, Fallon Smythe as Harper Row, and Tyler DiChiara as Cullen Row.
Gotham Knights premieres on The CW on March 14 right after Superman & Lois.
