THE SHIELD's Michael Chiklis Lands Key Series Regular Role In Season Two Of GOTHAM

He played corrupt cop Vic Mackey in The Shield, but now Fantastic Four (the 2005 version, not the upcoming reboot) Michael Chiklis has landed a key role in season two of Gotham as a member of the Gotham City Police Department. Hit the jump for details on his role...

TV Line reveals that Michael Chiklis is coming to season two of Gotham in the series regular role of Captain Nathaniel Barnes. However, don't expect to see the actor rehash his beloved character from The Shield because it sounds like he will be a major ally to Detective Jim Gordon...at least at first! According to the official description, Barnes "lands on the GCPD like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force. He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon, Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy." An enemy? It sounds like an interesting twist is on the way then! We'll find out more when the show returns this Fall...

It's not an origin story. I don't care how it's advertised, it's not an origin story. It's a cop series about corruption and organized crime set in pre-Batman Gotham. All the characters that pop up feel incidental, like in all cop shows. If you weren't a comic-book fan you wouldn't think twice about who these people are, you'd just enjoy the hell out of the characters and the story. This is not Batman's "Smallville", it's something far fresher and more entertaining than that. Even better, as a comic-book fan, I can tell you that each character is represented very faithfully and, as someone who's been watching it from the start, I can tell you that it had one of the best first seasons of any show I've ever seen. It started off at a very high level of quality and has only gotten better. This hatred that some of the more idiotic fanboys have is illogical and ridiculous.

He sure likes being in superhero shows and movies. He not only was in Fantasic Four, but also No Ordinary Family. It will be great to see how he plays the character. Hopefully he becomes a crime boss at the end. I just think he'd do a great job as one.

I couldn't agree more! I don't think it's one of the best first seasons ever... But it's a really good show! It's a pretty damn good police drama that has a TON of nods to comic characters and the whole batman universe!
Not sure exactly why people hate on it... But to each his/her own:-)

There's a reason the ratings are astronomical for this show. While you may have good company among the glue-huffers of the CBM community, you are in the minority when it comes to most TV viewers.

So, the "twist" is in the character description? NICE!

LoL!!!
