It's been quite a while since Tom Hardy's memorable incarnation of Bane broke the Bat in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, and fans of the iconic villain have been wondering if and when we'd get to see another - preferably a little more comic-accurate - version of the character in live-action.
Now, a new rumor is claiming that Bane is going to make his DCEU debut in James Gunn's Peacemaker HBO Max series.
The source hasn't exactly build-up a strong track record yet, but they were the first to report on a certain X-Men character making a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (read more here), and this latest rumor also appears to have been backed-up by semi-reliable scooper Daniel Richtman.
We have no problem believing that Gunn would make use of another established villain for this The Suicide Squad spinoff, but production on Peacemaker wrapped some time ago, and it seems a little odd that we haven't heard anything about Bane's possible involvement until now. Still, there's always a chance the director and his crew simply managed to keep it under wraps. After all, Luke Skywalker's appearance during the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian came as a surprise to everyone.
The first trailer for Peacemaker is expected to screen at DC FanDome next month, so if Bane really is a part of the show, we might just get confirmation during the panel.
Peacemaker will also star Danielle Brooks, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Robert Patrick and Chukwudi Iwuji. Specific plot details are still under wraps, but we do know that the series will explore the origins of Cena's titular DC Comics villain/antihero, a man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
Gunn is writing and directing the show, which was ordered to series last September. No official premiere date has been announced, but Peacemaker is expected to hit HBO Max next January.
UPDATE: We figured Gunn might weigh in here, and the director has now taken to Twitter to debunk the report - though he does add that he loves the character.
