PEACEMAKER's HBO Max Premiere Date Revealed; First Three Episodes Will Arrive On The Same Day

Peacemaker's premiere date has been revealed, along with the news that the first three episodes will hit HBO Max on the same day. As if that's not exciting enough, we also have the titles for each of them!

The Suicide Squad arrives in UK cinemas this Friday and hits HBO Max and U.S. theaters a week later. Needless to say, there's a huge amount of excitement surrounding James Gunn's first DC Comics adaptation, and Warner Bros.' decision to move forward with a spinoff series, Peacemaker, proves just how confident they are in the film.

It's already been confirmed that the show will debut on HBO Max next January, but thanks to information shared on the DC Press Portal, we now know the specific premiere date.

Peacemaker will debut on January 16, 2022. Surprisingly, this is a Sunday, though the days of streaming shows like this landing on a Friday do seem to be a thing of the past as Disney+, for example, is all about Wednesdays now. Regardless, there will be three episodes arriving that day, with the other five following on a weekly basis.

This has become commonplace for some series, as multiple episodes of WandaVision and The Boys debuted before the rest followed.

As for the titles of those Peacemaker episodes:

  • A Whole New Whirled
  • Best Friends Never
  • Better Goff Dead

While details about Peacemaker are being kept under wraps, the series will explore the origins of the character that Cena will play in The Suicide Squad, a man who believes in peace at any cost - no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. Gunn is directing episodes of the show, as are Jody Hill, Brad Anderson, and Rosemary Rodriguez.

Think it's not Disney+ isn't about wednesday entirely, just Star Wars. Marvel probably takes the wednesdays now. Still, WB probably does factor this when choosing days for their own shows. Wonder which day Amazon Prime is gonna pick though now.

@bkmeijer - HBO has always had their shows air on Sunday as far as I can remember. I remember my parents always making sure they were home and I was in bed on Sunday so they could watch the Sopranos. G.O.T. were Sunday nights also.

@bkmeijer - @Eagles0589 - Old school HBO's best shows were always on Friday. HBOmax releases have always been Thursday, but I have to say, going to the original release model is way better IMO.

Hulu has always done Wednesday release. It makes a little sense that Didney is putting that to use with D+ as well, since they own them both.

Amazon has always and is still keeping that Friday slot, which is fine. I'd want a clearer path. It's just the usual home release date for most major movies as well. Minor ones get a lot of Tues release date.

@inkniron - I got used to seeing the release date on mondays here with HBO shows in recent years, so I think I like the sunday slot the best.

I think for the international market (most Hulu stuff is on Star here) Disney also using wednesdays does make sense, as long as it aren't two big shows running at the same time.

@bkmeijer - they still do sometimes overlap though. Handmaid's Tale and Loki both ran Wednesdays for a couple weeks, even though they are technically "different" companies I guess.

It may not matter eventually. It could get to where they have enough original content that they can run shows on multiple days. I mean, it worked well enough for standard tv for years.

Even then, there was "Appointment Viewing" and "Must See TV" where they packed their best shows into one night, so it could be a bonus if ran them the same day.

@inkniron - I was kinda hoping that was gonna be the approach with the Marvel and Star Wars shows, but I can see why they split it up

Don’t ask me how, but it only just dawned on me that they greenlit and shot this entire show before anyone got to see the character. Imagine if people hate him haha

Surely you’d want to release this show kind of in the next month or two? It’s already been shot, and it would benefit coming off the hype of the SS?

I don't think a Sunday debut is weird for HBO. It's pretty much their night.

I think this is going to be fun, even if he gets whacked in TSS.

What could really be a kicker is if they did an anthology series. A string of hour long, one shots that showed how all the faithfully departed ended up behind bars to begin with.
