SUPERGIRL star Melissa Benoist and Producers on the Show's Hopeful Nature

Actress Melissa Benoist as well as producers Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg discuss how Supergirl is a more hopeful superhero series, owing a debt to both Christopher Reeve and director Richard Donner.

In many ways the show — which premieres tonight on CBS — is a throwback to a more innocent time, while simultaneously providing a genuine role model for girls in the audience without shirking on the superheroics.

More in line with the tone of The Flash. Nothing wrong with that.

Supergirl and Jessica Jones are miles apart in content and tone. One isn't out to destroy the other. Another brainless comment.

There's hopeful and cheesy done right, like The Flash, and then there's something like this...for some reason it feels excessively hokey

I'll give it the season. If I could do it for the dismal first season of AoS and stick with it till it improved, I think I can do it for this. I believe as a comic book movie and TV fan, all these shows deserve a decent chance. If more people had watched Constantine, it might still be on the air. And, I'm not delusional, I know the general TV viewer carries more weight than comic book centric audience, especially on a major network show.

I wasn't interested in this show but these comments actually have me on board a little bit. I like superheros to be more hopeful. For me, Jessica Jones seems a little TOO dark. I like that these guys recognise the family appeal of a weekly superhero show.

I just read reviews for Supergirl from......

Hitfix
Huffington Post
The New York Times
The San Francisco Chronicle
The Washington post
The Pittsburg Gazette
The Boston Herald
USA Today
The Hollywood Reporter
Variety

...all good to great reviews! Not a bad word. You know how hard it is to get good reviews from ALL these sources? Near impossible.

LOL! This show is designed to attack a young female audience foremost...... plain and simple. Wow I am sure if Marvel would push a show or movie out geared to little girls it would be Rainbows and Unicorns!!!!!!!

Jessica Jones looks solid but it is not geared for all females of all ages!

This is finally some smart marketing from DC if you ask me.
