SUPERMAN & LOIS Reportedly Casts THE ORVILLE & ARROW Alum Chad L. Coleman As Season 3's Main Villain

While we weren't expecting any major casting news over this quiet Labor Day holiday weekend, The Direct has seemingly uncovered who will be playing the big bad in the upcoming third season of Superman & Lois.

The outlet was in attendance during the ”Arrow Guests: Saving Star City” panel at DragonCon yesterday, where Arrow star and frequent Superman & Lois director David Ramsey revealed on stage that Chad L. Coleman (The Wire; The Orville) has joined the cast as the season's main villain.

No further details were provided on his role, but it's possible he'll be portraying Bruno Mannheim, the leader of Intergang, who is expected to play a major role next season.

Coleman should be a familiar name to Arrowverse fans, as he previously appeared in four episodes of Arrow season five as the crime lord Tobias Church. However, since the two shows do not take place on the same Earth, it looks like the door was open for them to bring him back in a bigger role. Coleman's other prominent credits include, but are not limited to, The WireThe Walking DeadIt's Always Sunny in PhiladelphiaAll AmericanThe Expanse, and The Orville

Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman), Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane), Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cushing), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Lane Irons), Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo), Dylan Walsh (Sam Lane), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Lang Cushing) will all reprise their roles in season three.

The role of Jonathan Kent is in the process of being cast, following Jordan Elsass' departure, and we should hopefully learn more relatively soon as filming is expected to begin within a week or two.

Superman & Lois season three is slated to return Early 2023.

S1 was great. S2 was... Not as great. I think S3 needs to lighten up and have a little fun.

@KWilly - S&L S2 and Black Lightning S2 must be the only DC shows in the CW that had so-so sequel Seasons but if Black Lightning was able to bounce back in S3 then it shouldn't be so much trouble for S&L.

His role as Clyden on The Orville has been amazing. Such a character arc. I've hated and loved Clyden. Dudes made me cry because of how he conquered his bigotry and ignorance to accept Topa for who she is. Chad is a wonderful actor.

I liked him as Tyreese in The Walking Dead and did fine with what he was given in Arrow as the sub-boss of S5.

He does have a physical presence to portray Bruno Mannheim. Hopefully he is a main villain and there isn't another switch and bait plot twist because as good as it was with Steel, "Morgan Edge" turning out to be Tal-Rho and "Doomsday" being Bizarro it could be falling into formulas and supposedly a show becoming formulaic isn't never a good thing.

There is though just one little, teeny tiny problem if he is Mannheim...in the Earth Prime issue 2 comic book crossover that focused on Superman & Lois' Earth, Mannheim isn't African American so it seems they didn't even bother to keep up with their own established continuity despite having written it. D:

Chad L. Coleman is also the 4th actor from the Arrowverse Earth 1-/Prime cast that they bring in to the show despite their intention of divorcing from the main continuity. He joins David Ramsey, Jenna Dewan and Brendan Fletcher who previous played in Arrow S7 Stanley Dover aka Star City Slayer who portrayed in SL& S1 Thaddeus Killgrave.
