SUPERMAN & LOIS Season 4 Will Premiere Later Than Expected; The CW Boss Says It'll "Blow Your Minds"

When DC Studios was formed, it's fair to say that most fans expected Superman & Lois to quickly go the same way as the DCEU and Arrowverse. Instead, the series has been given a stay of execution and will indeed get a fourth and final season.

It looked unlikely for a time, especially with The CW's change in leadership, but cameras recently began rolling on that last batch of episodes (the series is set to wrap up with a truncated 10-episode season).

Today, the network hyped up its springtime schedule, but there was no mention of the DC Comics adaptation. Since then, TV Line has confirmed the plan is for Superman & Lois to return this fall.

Brad Schwartz, President of entertainment for The CW, promises season 4 "[is] going to blow your minds," and explains the delay is a result of the show's lengthy post-production process. "I am not kidding, this season is going to be one of the best shows on TV," he tells the site. "I watched the first episode last night, and it’s gonna make you cry. It’s amazing."

"Because of all the special effects, it could be ready for summer, [but] we feel like it would be wasted in the summer. So let’s put it in the fall where we can sell it in the Upfront [and] really, really talk about it."

While Superman & Lois will return with a smaller cast and writing team, we're optimistic it will end on a high. The Arrowverse ended with The Flash, but this show's conclusion will be what finally ends that era of small screen storytelling for DC.

Last year, Superman & Lois executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher said this about the show's ending:

"While we're sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season Four, we're grateful for the time we've had with our amazing cast, crew, VFX teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that's what was created on and off screen."

"We'd like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey...and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We're thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can't wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show's history - Lex Luthor."

Stay tuned for more on season 4 as we have it.
