SUPERMAN & LOIS Season 4 Will Premiere Later Than Expected; The CW Boss Says It'll "Blow Your Minds"

Superman & Lois season 4 is set to return to The CW a little later than expected, but The CW's Brad Schwartz has promised DC Comics fans that the show is going to be worth the wait. Read on for details...

When DC Studios was formed, it's fair to say that most fans expected Superman & Lois to quickly go the same way as the DCEU and Arrowverse. Instead, the series has been given a stay of execution and will indeed get a fourth and final season.

It looked unlikely for a time, especially with The CW's change in leadership, but cameras recently began rolling on that last batch of episodes (the series is set to wrap up with a truncated 10-episode season).

Today, the network hyped up its springtime schedule, but there was no mention of the DC Comics adaptation. Since then, TV Line has confirmed the plan is for Superman & Lois to return this fall.

Brad Schwartz, President of entertainment for The CW, promises season 4 "[is] going to blow your minds," and explains the delay is a result of the show's lengthy post-production process. "I am not kidding, this season is going to be one of the best shows on TV," he tells the site. "I watched the first episode last night, and it’s gonna make you cry. It’s amazing."

"Because of all the special effects, it could be ready for summer, [but] we feel like it would be wasted in the summer. So let’s put it in the fall where we can sell it in the Upfront [and] really, really talk about it."

While Superman & Lois will return with a smaller cast and writing team, we're optimistic it will end on a high. The Arrowverse ended with The Flash, but this show's conclusion will be what finally ends that era of small screen storytelling for DC.

Last year, Superman & Lois executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher said this about the show's ending:

"While we're sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of Season Four, we're grateful for the time we've had with our amazing cast, crew, VFX teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that's what was created on and off screen."

"We'd like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey...and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We're thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can't wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show's history - Lex Luthor."

Stay tuned for more on season 4 as we have it.

I hope they have taken all the cuts to the cast and episode count and really found a way to focus the writing and pacing to be razor sharp this season.

Fingers crossed 🤞

@lazlodaytona - yeah, but it definitely falls into CW family drama a little too frequently imo. Especially with the Langs. I was honestly pretty happy when I heard a lot of thesupporti g cast were being given smaller parts this season. This show is at it's best when focusing on Clark and HIS family.

I have been really impressed with this show so far. Pleasantly surprise how good it is.

Wonder if he'll be dead for most of the episode with a time jump to his return. Would also help shuffle off a lot of the side characters that arent returning.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 2/15/2024, 3:16 PM
@Himura - I think he would presumed dead/missing while the rest of the cast deals with the aftermath with a tease of him still being alive by the end of the premeire

Disappointed how they did doomsday everyone messes up doomsday except for Kyrpton and look of doomsday on smallvile everyone else screws him up look and powers

@dragon316 - yeah I don’t get what’s so hard about adapting Doomsday either. BVS he was essentially the size of Peter Jackson’s King Kong for some reason. Really hate the laser beams they’ve been giving him in some adaptions too.
lazlodaytona
lazlodaytona - 2/15/2024, 5:23 PM
@dragon316 - um, Smallville has/had a small tv budget (i did not like the show so am not defending it). so, they're doomsday should look bad.

That makes it even worse the way Snyder did Doomsday with a larger budget.

I do wish they wouldn't have gone there w doomsday. The show has been SO good with villains.... give us Metallo, Parasite, hell .... even Mongul

I’m still sadden by the show being cut short but I hope this seasons wraps it up well…

This show has carved a special place in my heart honestly as one of , if not my favorite live action iteration of Superman & his world on screen so it deserves a strong ending imo!!.

Season rankings (favorite to least).

1.S1
2.S3
3.S2.

Looking forward to seeing how they resolve the cliffhanger from last season…

Hopefully we get Tal-Rho back this season for atleast an episode…

S2 wrapped up his story well but it would be cool to see him be a full hero for a bit now.

Even though he’s a composite character based on the likes of The Eradicator & H’el , he still feels original to the show and has been one of favorite additions to it.

@TheVisionary25 - He's definitely an original character. If they're bringing him back then it better be with some of his previous characterization from S1 and early S2, I didn't dig the sudden swashbuckling attitude he adopted when he landed in Bizarro World.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 2/16/2024, 2:33 AM
@NinnesMBC - you mean at the end when he went to Bizarro World?.

I didn’t find that odd , his attitude felt in line to how he was before to me but maybe I’ll check it out again to see if I feel the same…

Maybe I didn’t pick up on it before
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 2/16/2024, 8:36 PM
@TheVisionary25 - He always kept in his demeanour this dignified and proper type of behaviour around everyone, to see him switch into a very chilled, perhaps even carefree, attitude by the time S2 wrapped up in Bizarro World he felt almost unrecognizable to me. The only other change I've seen this happen before when a character changes of location is in AoS when Deke return to the present (the "past" for him) on Earth and he no longer was this roughed up Starl-Lord-esque character but a more comedic relief type one.

Hopefully you can realize what I mean if you do rewatch things.

@ProfessorWhy - It feels rough to say, but y hat’s been my number one hang up with the show. I watched the first couple episodes and just couldn’t see him as Supes. It’s probably great, and a lot of people like it, but I can’t see him in the role.

I am guessing we will get jordan being setup to take up the mantle, jon may start to develop his abilities or become a full fledged firefighter. I still think kyle is secretly going to be revealed as kyle raynor and him becoming a lantern is a redemption arc. He is a musician, which technically could be a twist on raynors artist background. Either that or he dies. Doomsday is normally introduced just to kill off superman so i hope they dont kill him but i have a feeling given the final season they will. Luthor will probably be given superpowers akin all star superman and he will learn to understand superman and learn his true identity along with it.
