SUPERMAN & LOIS Episode 3's Big Bad Reveal Ends With A Doomsday-Level Twist - SPOILERS

After a number of well-placed teases in the first two episodes, last night's installment of Superman & Lois finally revealed this season's big bad, and he arrived with a twist no one saw coming...

Hello Doomsday Bizarro!

After teasing "the thing in the mines" for several weeks, last night's installment of Superman & Lois finally unearthed this season's big bad, and it's a character no one saw coming! Instead of the expected Doomsday reveal, we were introduced to Bizarro (Tyler Hoechlin).

It's unclear what this means moving forward, but Hoechlin will be pulling triple duty for the foreseeable future, playing all three parts. Speaking with TV Line, Hoechlin expressed his initial reaction to learning about the clever misdirect:

"I remember the conversation I had with Todd Helbing, our amazing showrunner. I was insanely excited about it when he told me. With TV, there’s always the fear that sometimes you’ll get locked into doing the same thing over and over to the point where you feel like it’s Groundhog’s Day. This was a really cool chance to do something different — an opportunity to play on set and really let go."

While we'll surely learn more about where this "bizarre" version of Clark came from, it seems that, for the time being, both he and the Man of Steel will be just as confused as we are.

Now, as for whether we could see the actual Doomsday show up in Smallville at some point, Hoechlin didn't want to make any promises, but did seem to indicate that it's not something that can necessarily be ruled out, especially this early in the show's run.

"When it’s a movie, it’s a lot easier to say yes it was this or no it was that as the actor. On these shows, I never want to say anything definitive because I don’t know. There are certain things they keep from us too. I think it is what it is at the moment, but who knows what it leads to. Only Todd and the writers have that answer."

This was a terrific episode, and that fight scene in particular with Supes, Bizarro, and John was absolutely mesmerizing and amazing to watch.

Can't freaking wait for what comes next, they did a really great job here. Season 2 has so far been really good.

Boy, were they clever with that misdirect. Like how Bizarro was wearing what looked like the same spacesuit Doomsday had in the comics.

@Odin - guess they were inspired by the "happy accident" of making captain Luther revealed to be John Henry iron. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a similar reveal of a big bad behind bizarro.

not interested in non tolkein lord of the rings and i like the boys but dont love

Stranger things has gone down hill but sandman looks great

not a halo guy and star trek needs a fresh start

If it's Bizarro cool, but honestly not buying it.

Since when does Bizarro have psychic abilities or a connection to clark.

How did he end up under ground in a containment suit.

You know who does have psychic abilities?

H'el

was actually originally going to be the new 52 bizarro before dc decided to make him an original character

is a genetically modified clone of several kryptonians with plenty of unique abilities that could explain why John Henry's missle had no effect

The reveal was pretty good, almost no one saw it coming so it was well executed. Todd Helbing said half truths back in the premiere when he confirmed the final shot of 2x01 with that globed hand punching through the mines was an homage to that cover of Doomsday cloaked in that green suit but he was going with a subversion here.

And it being Bizarro still fits with why Clark is getting those high-pitched painful visions/headaches because this version of the character does appear to be a doppelganger of his: same red and blue suit, red cape (with holes though), red belt, the same House of El crest just inverted etc. The odd thing is that necklace that Bizarro is wearing. Maybe a sunstone that contains another AI? (I just came up with this)

Until next week episode brings more answers, Clark and Bizarro reacting in pain at the same time with those visions is oddly familiar with what happened to Alice in Batwoman years ago when her good doppelganger ended up on Earth Prime. (Lara did say that it was "interdimentional kinesthesis")

SUCH a good episode and reveal.

I can't believe they tricked us again! This show just keeps getting better and better.

The backwards S and show title at the very end was a nice touch.

They finally give us an almost comic accurate introduction to Doomsday and it was a bait and switch.

I was bracing to be disappointed since last week they revealed a silhouette and I thought he was far too skinny to be Doomsday. They revealed him yesterday and I thought he was too tiny. I thought Henry's Henshin scene was pretty well done, and laughed and he got knocked the hell out which I probably shouldn't have, but I was still kind of reeling from the disappointment of how small Doomsday was.

Then they revealed his face and I did not see that coming and it made everything okay. Mostly this is why I hate speculating, since when it doesn't turn out to be how you think it'll turn out in your head it leads to disappointment, but credit where it's due that was a good and well played reveal.

Wish they moved this to HBO Max, which would translate to a bigger budget, which is pretty much the only flaw this show has, the budget limitations show in the action pieces.

Anyway, considering this year is the 30th anniversary of The Death of Superman, I was sure Doomsday was the creture causing the earthquakes, that was a clever misdirect.

Anyway, as always, this show is something else, and makes me want to slap DC fans every time they say "we dont even have a live action Superman"
