We got confirmation early last year that the upcoming third season of DC Universe's Titans would introduce a small-screen take on Barbara Gordon, and the role has now been cast.

Variety reports that actress/musician Savannah Welch (Tree of Life, Boyhood) will play Gordon, but she won't be suiting-up as Batgirl, as her costumed vigilante days are long behind her.

This incarnation of the popular DC Comics character will be the Commissioner of the GCPD, having inherited the position from her late father. Barbara did strike fear into Gotham's criminal underbelly as Batgirl back in the day, but after being shot and paralysed by the Joker (it looks like the events of Alan Moore's The Killing Joke will be canon), she hung up the cape and cowl and took on a more Oracle-like role before becoming the new Commissioner.

According to the official description, Babs "has a combative relationship with Bruce Wayne. Her life gets more complicated when Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) returns to Gotham, rekindling their old romance and starting a new crime fighting partnership."

Titans season 3 will air on the HBO Max streaming service. Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti will once again serve as executive producers along with Greg Walker and Sarah Schechter.
