WATCHMEN HBO TV Series Enlists THE LEFTOVERS Director Nicole Kassell To Helm The Pilot

According to Deadline, The Leftovers showrunner Damon Lindelof has enlisted one of that series' directors, Nicole Kassell, to helm the pilot episode for his Watchmen TV show for HBO.

Kassell directed 2 episodes of The Leftovers, both of which were critically acclaimed. She also helmed installments of Westworld, Claws, The Americans, and 2004 drama The Woodsman starring Kevin Bacon.

We're still not certain what to expect from this take on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' classic tale, but by all accounts the show will be completely separate to Zack Snyder's - who was actually involved with the series at one point - 2009 feature, which in turn means it'll most likely take quite a few liberties with the source material.

Watchmen doesn't have a premiere date yet,but we'll keep you updated on its progress.

Move the DC universe to HBO and forget about the movies for a while.

@SeeingGreen - HBO Sandman would kill. Even if they deviated from the source material, it could easily work (ala Preacher). I was into this but Doomsday Clock has made me just wish they left the entire property alone, in general. Still hoping it ends up good, obviously

@SeeingGreen -
They already tried to adapt it for film and couldn't. Sandman belongs on HBO.

As much as I loved the visual style of the movie, it really bared no resemblance to the art of the book other than similar compositions. Hoping this version captures the look and feel of the book more accurately.

I honestly don't understand why DC/WB doesn't put more content on HBO. A full on Mature Rated superhero show with the budget and care of a Game of Thrones could be great. Not sure if Watchmen would be my first pick seeing that they already did that as a movie, but something like Justice League Dark or even just a full on Batman series could be awesome.

@FearTheLiving - the Question series belongs on HBO.

WB should do HBO shows that connect the DCEU. Secret Six, The Question, Static, etc. So many possibilities.

The linchpin of this will be if it takes place as a prequel, or just re tells the main events of the Watchmen books, longform. My choice: both, show the Watchmen story but intercut with flashbacks a -la the first season of Lost.
