Damon Lindelof, the showrunner and mastermind behind HBO's well-received
Watchmen sequel, surprised even the most skeptical of critics with a spectacular take on the Alan Moore graphic novel that went on to receive numerous awards and tons of acclaim. That's why the news that Lindelof had no plans to continue the show as he "
told the entire story he wanted to tell" in season 1 was a bit of a shocker.
Continuing the trend of bewildering decisions, HBO has decided to honor Lindelof's wishes and won't replace him with another showrunner to continue the story.
However, series star Regina King recently told The Hollywood Reporter that if HBO changes course, she's game to reprise her role as Angela Abar on two conditions - the new season is just as smart as the first, and she knows the show's endgame.
"
I can see myself being involved in a season two if it was really smart. I would need to know the beginning and the endgame, unlike how this season was. I did not know what the endgame was. I just totally trust [creator] Damon [Lindelof]. There's a part of me that feels like … it's just really hard to think we could top season one, you know?"
If you don't have HBO and have yet to watch the show,
Watchmen hits Blu-ray and DVD on June 02.
From Damon Lindelof and set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own. The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.
